I'm attending the BloodhoundBlog Unchained event in Phoenix, AZ. Although the content is technology-focused, the underlying theme I'm picking up is that surrounding yourself with positive, energetic, people committed to making it through these tough times with a good attitude is key to survival - thrival, in fact. Whether it's real estate or any other industry segment, staying positive is key. Spending time keeping your skills sharp will keep you ready to catch the world on fire when the market/economy changes.
Absolutely motivated! And yes, Patricia, hanging out with my mom is a key piece of the puzzle! She's here too, of course, but they've separated us!
Surrounding yourself with the right people is very, very important. In a first-hand case I have a colleague who, after one stumble after another, has had to exit the business --- temporarily, she said. The few colleagues of hers whom I met were not very sharp and one in particular has also exited the business. This particular person was very close to her, worked with her, and was a confidant to her. I believe she didn't have good people around her.
On a professional level, the "company" you keep can be key to one's success. My office is innovative, training-based, and has a strong culture of sharing and caring. I don't think I'd survive this market if I was working with my last broker.
A key value here at Bloodhound Unchained is "Scenius" - the brainstorming (before and after all the sessions) of highly charged, knowledgeable and positive people - which results in more than the sum of all their knowledge. Long live caring and sharing.
