Are you embracing your inner texter?

Texting Is Life

Texting isn't just for your teenage son or daughter anymore. As twenty-somethings enter the real estate market as buyers, it's more important than ever to "speak your buyer's language".

You probably know LOL (Laughing Out Loud), ROTFLMAO (Rolling On The Floor Laughing My A*s Off), and other very common text abbreviations. But how proficient are you in speaking "text" to a client who really uses it every day? Here are some hints to help you become (or just look like) a texter:

BC.....Because

BTW.....By The Way

CU.....See You

EOD.....End of Day

NRN.....No Reply Necessary

OTP.....On The Phone

QQ.....Quick Question

THX.....Thanks

YW.....You're Welcome

86.....Over (Ended)

ADDY.....Address

F2F....Face To Face

GMTA.....Great Minds Think Alike

IMO.....In My Opinion

IMHO.....In My Humble Opinion

OIC.....Oh, I See

L8.....Late

NP.....No Problem

J/W.....Just Wondering

So there you have it! A short list of common abbreviations used by those who text!

I have a really hard time with the texting language.  I've got this inner grammarian that requires things to be written out with capital letters at the beginning of each sentence (watch me spell a bunch of words wrong in this comment).  I end up chopping out words so that I can get everything in the 160 character limit...I'm working on getting over it.  :)

Tristan - My grandmother was an English teacher. I have a hard time too but it's something I've learned to be relevant to today's younger buyers. (Don't get me started on 'close proximity' and 'winningest' and other English language travesties!)

Pat - NP, MP (No problem, My Pleasure)!

Eric - You may be right, but I'd rather be able to communicate with the future real estate buyers and sellers (and investors) than be critical of a communication style. I will still read books and remember 'the way it used to be'...
