REALTORS ~ Have some of you forgotten how to USE A PHONE? Do you KNOW we have a thing called E-MAIL?

By
Real Estate Agent with Realty ONE Group Mountain Desert

This is a RANT ~ but one I am happy to share with consumers. WHY? Because I hear from my clients all the time "What is wrong with these Realtors? Why can't they pick up a phone and call people back?"

Ahhhhhh.... I WISH I knew, because I can't get them to call me back, either. And you'd think in a market such as we are in, THEY (Realtors) would be bending over backwards for business. Because I KNOW for a fact none of you are rolling in the dough right now. You DON'T have me fooled. So WHY is it you do NOT call ME or CLIENTS back? WHY I SAY? WHY?

The most recent situation that has me TICKED off was the other day; A Realtor showed/previewed one of my listings, and later in the day I called and e-mailed(TWICE) HIM for some feedback. It's been four days and still NOTHING. This particular Realtor is one of those "Top Producers" you hear about. HOW HE got that tag-line is beyond me, because I think one needs be  PROFESSIONAL as well as sale a heap of homes to get that HONOR.

"I" think he is as professional as a snail!

On the flip side of this is, that I got two new clients in the past month thanks to LAZY, UNPROFESSIONAL Realtors. So, to THOSE Realtors, I say THANKS, I'll take good care of these fine folks.

Unfortunately I'm in an area where this is common. I use my own 3 strikes rule: If I can't get another agent in 3 contacts (combined call and/or email), I don't need to do business with them. NEXT! You're doing the right thing by maintaining a professional posture all the time, forget about the others - they have to look at themselves in the mirror and justify their existence. I'm ranting with you...

Kat - Yep, happens to me all the time, sadly, too many times.  I can't keep count of how many clients I have picked up who told me when they first met me that the last LO they worked with never called them back.

Just yesterday, I called someone who was referred to me by a friend and in talking to her, she told me that she had been trying to get pre-approved for a month.  A MONTH?  She had given her LO all the documentation he had asked her for and the few times that she has been able to get the guy on the phone to ask about her pre-approval, he keeps telling her "Oh, I've been busy but I'll get to it today" and she never hears from him again until she has to call him another dozen times.

The worse part!  This bozo is her cousin!  Go figure.

This is so true, we actually live/work in a pretty simple business. Show up, Smile, Fill in the blanks and return a call!!! (well maybe not that simple, but STILL... if you are not doing the simple stuff what else are you neglecting?)

Agents often complain that the phone is not ringing as well, and I remind them that it is a 2 way device they can use to make calls and get the phone ringing too!

Robert: So true...! A two-way street it is. But the road the consumers take is ultimately the BEST road for us who practice PROFESSIONALISM.  Thanks much!

It is too easy to misread an email as there is not voice reflection.  Email "call the title company and ask them".  Are asking the nicely or are you trying to get rid of them. Tough to tell.  Last night I called an agent and the agent text me back "what do you want?"  Why text....and are they upset?

I reply to a zillion AR posts about agents who are upset at other agent's email reply.  I comment and tell them to pick up the phone and call them.....or better yet go to their office.  It is too easy to misread context on texts or emails.  Superior post........ Sell on........

Professionalism, courtesy and ethics are the keys to success and being successful. For years I have made it a point to return all calls, even when I knew there were problems, as a way of demonstrating to my people that I could take the bad with the good.

Some people get the false sense of importance and overlook the fact that we all put our shirts on the same way. Good Post!

This is so common, unfortunately.  I do understand when someone cannot call you back immediately, but never bothering to pick up the phone in respect of your time and that of your clients is just wrong!

Kat,

I read you. In this tough housing and mortgage market everyone should be in their best behavior. But at least you are getting business because of it, just as I am. That's fine with me.
