Recently I was visiting my father in Houston.  On the way back, my husband decided to take 59 and cut through Cold Sprngs.  He pointed out to me once again where his grandparents on his mother side were buried.  They lived in Cleveland.  If you are in the area and know about FM 2025, you will be pleasantly amazed at the beauty of that stretch of road.  There is a small cemetary on FM 2025 where my husband's grandparents were laid to rest.  Along that same road is the Sam Houston National Forest.  There are row after row of tall pine trees.  It is so beautiful to see as you go down FM 2025.  My husband's grandfather had land in that area and he was generous enough to donate 80 acres to the National Forest.  That was a very generous thing to do.  I took some pics.

Hi Richard,

thanks.

Beautiful pictures seems like a wonderful area. Every year my children and I clean out and donate stuff to the goodwill at least twice a year. Also, at Christmas I let my children pick a toy to donate to the children who are less fortunate. I feel this gives them a good experience at giving and realizing not everyone is as fortunate as they are.

Something for your family to be very proud of.  I don't know of a thing my family has given back to their town.

My maternal grandparents were very independent people, (hard working and god loving) and gave me my conservative leanings, which I am greatful for.  One of my earliest memories of my grandmother was her walking all over her small town (she had no car) taking baskets of food to people who were hungry or sick.  She also made soap for an Indian school and worked hard in the Women's Missionary Society.  She had such a hard life, and died young.

My Paternal grandparents anscestors were on the Mayflower. (Peregrin White)  What does that do for anyone? Well I guess they were very brave people and they got this country going.  Interesting to look into your roots when you have the time.

I've been on that stretch of road when my marketing guru took me on a tour of Texas A&M University, Sam Houston State University, the Huntsville State Prison, and Houston. I never thought of Texas as having so many pine trees until that trip.

Hi Jim,

I didn't know about them either until my husband took me down there 2 years ago.  I've told him that I am interested in moving to that area.

Hi Sandra,

your grandparents sound like great people.

What a wonderful thing for them to have done and for you to be able to share with future generations.
