Top 7 Tips to Connect with Blog Comments

Do you want to kick your blogging up a notch?  One key to successful blogging is listening.  When you listen by reading a blog post you need to treat that time as you would if you were sitting across the table from a prospective client.

To listen you need to make a commitment to unplug from your other tasks at hand. There's a lot of hearing that gets done online, but listening is in a class all its own.  If you truly listen you set yourself up for great connections and true business opportunities.  Add commenting to your blogging goals and try these commenting tips.

Top 7 Tips to Connect with Comments

1.  Read the Full Post- It's common for people to skim posts online.  Try to choose blogs that you can regularly visit that are chock full of great content and interesting subjects that keep you on your toes.

Hi Rebecca-I love this post because it is packed with such great info. I always read somebody's post all the way otherwise you miss something and I figure why just skim. If it is good enough to skim it is even better to read it in it's entirety. Great job. Nicely done. Enjoy your day. <SMILE>

Good tips.  We should just use good manners.  I have gotten a lot of good information since coming to AR.

Rebecca,

Great advice, thank you.  I am a newbie and have really enjoyed the contact with agents from all over, and the affiliates too.  So much good information, inspiration, and camaraderie.  I feel like I have new friends.  It has made me enjoy real estate much more.

I have found myself skimming at times, because I am so pressed for time, but you are right.  You could miss a lot, and then why bother.

Rebecca,

Wonderful post. Comments have so many benefits. Connecting with others. Making quality comments can help establish your community presence.

My fault is not reading the comment thread.

Rebecca --- I like your post and agree with all 7 points.  One that I'm guilty of not accomplishing yet, but am working on it is to get in touch with all of the local bloggers --- you would think that would have been the first thing to do, but I just didn't think about it.  I'm looking at SC and selecting those closest to me and spreading out from there. Thank you --  I'm always learning  more from you.

Great post, I love all 7 of the Top 5 ways to connect. Seriously it's a great list and written in an easy to read manner which doesn't require "skimming" to read.

Hi Rebecca ~ These are some great ideas.

I use up a *lot* of time because I do read the posts and the comments - and I read way more than I end up commenting on - here and on other blogs.

I particularly like your advice about looking for bloggers in other professions.  I'm going to try that to expand on my results for local blogs.  So far, as hard as I've tried to find local blogs most that I come across are stream of consciousness, rants, etc.  Or the last post was in 2008.  But I keep looking!

Sharon- I hope you enjoy the rest of your day too.  I do a lot a good block of time to commenting so I can read the entire posts.  I always finish with some great stuff.

Sea to Sky Premier- I always enjoy seeing your avatar on my blog and am thankful you are a reader.

Team Honeycutt- It's nice to be part of a valuable community.

Sandra- It can be tough when your time is divided and that's why I suggest making some commenting goals.

Richard- You never know what kind of connection you can make through that comment thread.  People will converse back and forth with each other on a comment thread sometimes and that is great conversation.

Liz- Can't wait to get your feedback on your local blogger goals.

Kathy- LOL- Thank YOU.  I read that and came right back to edit my post.  I appreciate your reading and noting that seriously.  Great comment.:-)

Liz- You can also put it out there on Twitter and I have found some more local bloggers thru LinkedIn.

Rebecca

You are a smart lady and also Anne Marie Malfi. I enjoy your blogs very much and also Anne Marie's blogs. Full of interesting ideas and information and so witty. I agree 100% with you that when you read a blog you have to read all the comments; especially if you want to add you own. You don't want to repeat something that has been said 10 times before by other people.

I would add...respond and screen your comments...once in a while you get someone from out of left field..usually not an AR person and the color of the comment is neither complimentary nor in professionally good taste...blog on !

Rebecca - yet another post that truly captures how to have a great online experience and truly make a connection with readers and commenters.  I know I can always find ways to keep improving all aspects but the one I don't participate in as much is #3 - local stuff - as I know you do.  Thank you for the very kind mention in #7 - you certainly have been one of the greatest gifts that has come to me as a result of being on AR and now I can't imagine my life without you in it - so happy you reached and I reached back! ~Anne Marie

Hi Rebecca, if only there were 48 hours in a day....just kidding, that would kill me.  I always try to treat the writer as if s/he were in front of me, and be as attentive as a face to face...it seems the courteous thing to do.  I would like to add though, that bloggers should also think of the readers time and write posts that can be read in a reasonable amount of time.  Most ideas can be shared quite well by paring down to the essentials.  Sometimes life can get too busy to spend 10 or 15 minutes reading 1 post....just my 2 cents.

I blog and recently joined Twitter.  "Listening" to others outside our profession has certianly given me valuable insight how to improve my presence.  On Twitter I follow JimMacMillan, a pulitzer prize journalist  who blogs and Twitters.  I have learned much from "listening" to him!

You mean we are expected to read these things and not just comment for points???? (JK of course!)

I only comment when I feel a need to agree or add to the post, some times it takes a lot of reading to find comment worthy posts...

Rebecca thanks for your post.  These are all very valid points.  Like Mama Liz, I hadn't really thought about the local blog connection.  I will definitely put this on my to do list.

Robert- Some posts do not engage the readers or rather encourage them to comment or ask questions I would agree with that.

Vickie- Thank you.  I regularly submit articles to Broker Agent Social.

Joe- I am really glad to hear that.  I originally published this post in May, but I have been pruning my blog and when I did so to this post, it republished to the top of my blog:)

Tammie- Excellent.  You can have a regular list of blog to do's and soon they do become routine.  I am always adding something to my list.

Rebecca--I am going to admit...I am a skimmer and have so many good blogs to read and comment on I don't always have time to read the whole thing unless it is especially intriguing. I will go check out your other tips now....I just skimmed before commenting. LOL

Teri,

Lol....there are so many good blogs to read that's true.  I try to set aside time just for commenting, that way I can pay attention to the whole post because it is a conversation and have you ever noticed that in a post the conversation can turn, just like in real life.  That is why it is also important to read the comments too.

I loved the idea of getting in touch with local bloggers. In fact, I just did a search, and realized there are not that many in my area.  Hmmm....does that present an opportunity or what? I also like the idea of "conversations" rather than "The Formal Post" where you sound like a news person. I think this should be fun, not stuffy!
