Hang Nothing

By
Home Stager with Stage with Divine Style - Home Staging

So I recently had a home owner who hired us to Stage her Semi Custom Single Level Home home but would not allow us to hang anything.

To compensate we brought in tall plants.

We also brought in tall furnishings.

We where able to hang curtains.

What would you do?

So hard when you can't hang art!  If you have metal art stands they work well.  We staged a large new construction home once and the builder would only allow one nail in each room.  I think this was even more difficult.

Well, you compensated pretty well.  It's interesting that they want to tie one hand behind your back and expect the same result.  People just don't understand staging I guess.  Great work.

That is always a tough one when they won't allow you to hang art.  Art is key in any room.  You did a wonderful job capturing some height with your furnishings and plants Linda.

Linda, I don't think the absence of artwork was too much of a big deal, judging by your pictures. Of course it would of looked better if you were able to hang one or two large pieces but the plants really helped. Very nice!

Linda ~ You did what you could and I think you compensated for the "hang nothing" instructions very well.

Great job!  I have had builders that did not want me to hang anything and it makes it hard.

You pulled it off!  It's so difficult when clients place this request on a stager as the artwork can truly add the warmth.  You did a great job though and should be proud.

I like it.  Too often we see every imaginable thing hanging on the walls and it does nothing to enhance the rooms.  I'm a minimalist. . .and like it that way.

Agree with all of the comments above, tieing your hands, but as Cathy said, and easel would assist with placing a few pieces so there is not a noticible absence.  The ironwork over the fireplace was a great choice, as well as the "leaner" in the office!

Thank you for all of your responses. A art easel would be a great idea.

You handled the challenge wonderfully -- can't believe they wouldn't let you hang anything!  They need to learn about how incredible Hercules hooks are!  We use them all the time in models and they leave such a tiny hole!

I'm always perplexed when I hear stagers say that the owners wouldn't let them hang art. By the time my art comes down off the wall, the homeowners should be moving out, and the new owners just have tiny holes to patch. Or...they can hang art right over the tiny little holes! I think art makes the room; there just isn't as much personality without it.

You did a great job with the restrictions that were given to you.

Margaret,

It turned out that the Home Owners had paid a fortune to have the whole house professionally painted. Their concern was they would have to call the painting company out again.

Peg ,

I agree that the art makes the room.

Linda you did a super job. Under those circumstances all you can do is lean art wherever possible. Art adds that finishing touch to a room. I don't understand why people think they have to turn over the house with pristine walls. Most leave little holes behind when they move. Maybe they just haven't made the leap to realizing they won't be there!

Janice,

Thank you.  At first we wanted to question it but then we realized it stretched us.  It gave us an opportunity to see how creative we could be, since this was the first time we came across it.

It was good to hear from others that they experienced this too.  We felt at the time like we were the only ones.

Another option would be to use the 3M removable hooks to hang art.  You can buy them for a couple dollars and they do not put holes or marks on paint or wood.  I've used them to hang art temporarily and then you just pull down on the hook sticker and it comes off like it was never there.
