Air Expo '09 will take off when Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, hosts the Navy's Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, the Army's Golden Knights, and the F-16 Viper East Coast Demo Team on May 23 and 24.
Parking and admissions are free. No advance tickets are required. Gates open at 9 am. The show will start at approximately 11:30 am, with the Army's Parachute Team, the Golden Knights, followed by an exciting line up of civilian and military performers.
Blue Angels
The Navy's Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, will awe Air Expo '09 guests with a flight demonstration that exhibits the choreographed refinements of Navy trained flying skills. It includes the graceful aerobatic maneuvers of the four-plane Diamond Formation, in concert with the fast-paced, high-performance maneuvers of its two solo pilots. Finally, the team illustrates the pinnacle of precision flying, performing maneuvers locked as a unit in the renowned six-jet Delta Formation. The Blue Angels fly the F/A-18 strike fighter, a single-seat, twin engine, multi-mission aircraft capable of speeds over Mach 1.7, or speeds in excess of 1,200 miles per hour. The fastest speed flown during an air show is about 700 mph and the slowest speed is about 120 mph, both flown by the solo pilots. In addition to the wide variety of military static displays, the

- Ryan PT-22 Recruit
- Stinson L-5 Sentinel
- Scottish Aviation Bulldog T.1
- Stearman N75NM
Golden Knights
In 1959 13 men joined together to form the Strategic Army Corps Sport Parachute Team, to compete in the then communist dominated sport of skydiving. The team performed so well that on June 1, 1961 the Army officially recognized, designated and activated the team as the U.S. Army Parachute Team. For 50 years the "Golden Knights" have been wowing audiences at air shows, competitions and most recently, with high profile tandems. The two demonstration teams of the Golden Knights travel all over the country performing aerial demonstrations at air shows and special events in support of Army recruiting goals. The two competition teams travel, competing nationally and internationally at various skydiving competitions, continuously bringing home gold, silver and bronze medals. They are the most successful U.S. Department of Defense sports team.

F-16 Viper East Demo Team
The F-16 Viper East Demo Team will perform precision aerial maneuvers to demonstrate the unique capabilities of this multi-role fighter during Air Expo '09 May 23 and 24.
Team members also exhibit the professional qualities that the Air Force develops in the people who fly, maintain and support these aircraft. The team flies the F-16CJ, a single-seat aircraft which has the ability to switch from an air-to-ground to air-to-air role at the touch of a button. With its lightweight airframe and powerful General Electric engine generating 31,000 pounds of thrust, the F-16CJ can fly at speeds in excess of Mach 2.
