Celebration Restaurant… A Reason to Celebrate!

I have said that there are two types of restaurants in Dallas… the “Johnny Come Lately” type.  They come on the scene with some flash and fanfare and even if they are initially successful and have good food, within a year or two they are usually gone.  The other type are the Dallas restaurant “Classics”.  These are the places that have been here for many years. The locals all know it when you say the name and anyone you mention it to responds by saying something like, “Oooo! I haven’t been there in a while.  I love that place.  Now you’ve made me hungry!”  Celebration Restaurant definitely falls into the “Classic” category.

Located at 4503 West Lovers Lane in Dallas, Celebration has been in business since 1971… that’s 38 years!  Featuring a casual atmosphere, reasonable prices, and homestyle cooking, everything about the Celebration experience is quality… from the atmosphere to the food and the service, I can honestly say that in the 18 years that I have been dining there, there has never been a bad meal… and it is always a consistent experience.

The menu features standard fare like Meatloaf, Chicken Fried Steak or Chicken, Pot Roast and Pork Chops, along with unique items like "Jerk" seasoned Chicken, and typically 3 or 4 daily specials (usually including a fish choice).  The flavors and seasonings are consistent with what you might expect at your mom’s house.  The meals are served with your choice of a homemade soup of the day or salad (both unlimited on refills) and 3 vegetables (rotated daily) served family style in large bowls set on the table so that everyone can take as much or as little as they choose (trust me, you will take more than less).

One of my favorite elements of the Celebration dining experience is the option (if you have not made a pig of yourself or don’t want to save room for their great desserts) to have “seconds”… that’s right… "seconds" on the entrees and "seconds" on the veggies.  And the fine folks at Celebration will also allow you to switch entrees on your "seconds".  Now, in fairness, if you switch entrées on your “seconds” to a more expensive choice than what you originally ordered, they will charge you on the bill for the cost of the more expensive of the two entrees, but fair is fair.  I love that this option gives me a chance to try multiple entrees that appeal to me.  A friend of mine has even coined the term “Celebration Grazing” to apply to when you get two different entrees.

For dessert, there is a wonderful fresh fruit cobbler of the day that can be served with entrée, along with such menu regulars as the brownie sundae, banana pudding or chocolate cream pie.

If you’ve never been to Celebration, you are missing out on what I consider to be one of Dallas’ nicest dining experiences.  Prices are quite reasonable (dinner entrees start at around $10) and you never leave feeling like you did not get your money’s worth!

Steve:  This sounds like a really great place to eat.  I need to aim my little Honda CR-V in that direction one of these days... and try this place out.  Thanks for the great review.  Yum... love those veggies !
