Pink is My Favorite Color...or NOT

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Missy Caulk TEAM

Pinked SlippedTuesday my husband was given a pink slip from Belleville High School. He is history teacher and social studies teacher. He is tenured.

I was shocked

The schools in Michigan are handing out a lot of pink slips including: Flint 257, Detroit 600, Pontiac everyone, Lansing 170.

Last year at Belleville High School, (where he teaches) they didn't let enough teachers go so in October after the enrollment count they had to redo classes.   Mike was not one of them.

When they change the class sizes some students go and some classes are dropped and it is disruptive. So this year they are letting 90 go and then hiring back.

If you are pinked slipped and hired back you can still be let go in October after the enrollment count.

Can you stay unstable?

I don’t want your sympathy but your advice, prayers and help.Boo hoo

I want to see if Social Media (which we all hail) can get my husband a job.

 In Tennessee

Most of you know I am from the South and we have hoped to move back there when we retired if not before.

So I am asking you if you know anyone in Tennessee, the Nashville Area to please pass along my husband’s name.  We have looked and there are 5 History teaching positions available in the Nashville, Williamson County Area, which he is applying for.

However, it is not what you know but WHO YOU KNOW.

A little bragging:

My husband is an outstanding teacher. Every year his classes fill up and if a student is removed for scheduling issues…mom and dad demand they be put back in Mr. Caulk’s class.

Mike does all of his lesson plans on Power Point, uses YouTube and the news this week by Uncle Jake.  He is a fun, and an engaging history teacher. Making the subject  come alive for his students.

Everyday at school for 5 years, he would check out the over-head projector so this year, the administration bought him one.  I can count on my ONE hand the days he has missed in the last 6 years, even returning the day after he had stints put in his heart.

Social Media is more than Twitter, more than FaceBook it is like attending a Chamber of Commerce meeting that extends outside four walls.

Can Social Media help find Mike A JOB?

They say if you want to adopt a baby tell everyone you know. So I am telling everyone I know.  Any help would be so appreciated, especially if you know anyone in the Nashville area that teaches, a principal or works in Administration. ( If you do I will email you his resume.)

When one door closes, another one opens so we are thinking and hoping this might be an open door to move and settle in TN. First of all we are believing God will open a door if we are to move forward with a job in Tn.  But, we know He works through people, so hence my appeal to you here on Activerain.

I figure if Jay McGullicuddy can find his birth mother and Brad Andersohn his brother,....

ALL things are Possible on Activerain.

Missy-

Don't forget Wilson County Tennessee!  We have the second highest rated school system in the state + Cumberland University too.

I'm not sure who we might know that could be of help but I'lll ask Gary and my wife.

I do know Walter Egan. He wrote the song "Magnet and Steel" and he is also a sub teacher in The Williamson county schools.

Missy- I reblogged your post so that more people can read it. I have some readership in Tennessee so it may get to the right person there who will help. I know that this is in God's plan. When I read your post, I got a strong sense of peace, knowing this is just a pathway to your dream. You are in our prayers. We love you and know that your husband will be led to the right job. Tennessee is a great state politically and socially for your family. It is a good choice, if you know what I mean. I have clients who bought hundreds of acres of land there and they told me all about why they are moving there. It is biz friendly too. Katerina

Missy, sorry if I duplicate any other sentiments- too many comments to read. I am terribly shocked that even teachers are not immune to this recession. Good luck to you in TN. Maybe this was part of the big plan to motivate you and give you a new direction?

Missy - I thought teaching jobs were among the more stable professions right now along with health care.  Seems like everything we used to be able to count on is no longer there.  Life is throwing too many curveballs lately.  This will be a real test of social networking.  I'll bet it works!

Missy, I'm sorry about the news and I know you said you didn't want sympathy. I feel bad for being such a "friend" who found out about this only so many days later. Havent really had too much Rain time.

I was in the Nashville/ Brentwood area 2 weeks ago for a Dave Ramsey counselor training event. It looks to be a very nice, serene place to set the next phase in your lives.

I will continue to petition on Mike's behalf. He might just try to get a job with the Dave Ramsey team, even though they are not in education per se, but everyone there operates with consistency and a heart of a teacher. I was simply amazed.

Oh sorry I'm late! I am so disheartened to read of the pink slip. I know that his light won't remain hidden under a bushel, and God is in TN too! All the best of care and encouragement to you and your (half-engaged!) family, Missy, and especially for your hubby. I'm certain he is as passionate about his work as you are compassionate about yours. TN won't be that far away from Auburn, so you let me know any ways that I can help or make things easier, anytime, ok?

Missy, we have been through this: lost everything -  job, house, car, and practically the family.  What i want to speak to you is this:  LIFE always comes out of death, and ALL things work together for GOOD for them that love the Lord and are "the called" according to His purpose.

In our own minds, (which the Lord tells us NOT to lean to), we select logical answers that are so far away from how God thinks!  I did not come to grieve with you or offer sympathy.... I am writing to express that this is the time to STAND (with your weapons on of course)... and to REJOICE!  Why rejoice?  Because God says to do it in all things and all the time!  (Besides, our God is so worthy).  It's in rejoicing that you will find our strength to stand!  Rejoicing (praise) is a powerful weapon!!  Rejoice, in the midst of all of this and WATCH what God does! - A powerful testimony awaits!

Diane

I am shocked!!  I haven't been on AR in a while and checking out many of your recent posts - so sorry to hear this - it touches us all in some way.  As you described, I can imagine what a good teacher Mike is - and I am sure you share so much on how to bring these tools into the classroom etc.  Sometimes things work out for the best - and I am standing for Mike finding a great job in Tennessee where you really want to be.  My thoughts and prayers are with both of you.  Your strong faith will create what's next - I am sure.

Missy - Thinking of you and Mike over the miles in the great southwest! I used to have an "in" with a few of the School Superintendents, but now they have both since retired. I know AZ isn't your choice, but hey I know I would love you guys here in our great state!  My prayers are with you and there is NO doubt there is a greater plan for Mike and some very fortunate souls (students) are waiting to be touched, blessed by his talent and kindness! Keep us posted when he gets the big call!

Missy I am sorry I missed this, I have been distracted with personal stuff.  I don't have any connection to TN accept for a past client who retired there.

I am hoping this experiment works and I know you will keep us posted.  I am confident it will work out well.  Yes right now it is stressful but it will get better.

Best wishes to you both.
