Hi guys,

Those of you who have non-airconditioned, non-heated storage facilities.... what do you do to protect the fabric stuff?

--- the pillows, the linens, etc.---

All tips gratefully appreciated.

(Moving tomorrow, and my inventory is being moved too!  Aaaaaaaaaaghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!)  Every bit as painful as everyone warned.

Thanks, Juliet

Oh gosh I wish I could help. Every time I've moved in the past 20 years I have ditched possessions so I can soon fit in an Airstream so I've had nothing in storage for eons. Thinking of you. XXOO

Juliet, I have that type of storage AND everything is in clear tubs and hanging clothing covers.  It's a hassle for finding stuff but each bin is labeled and everything is grouped according to the type of items, ie vases, candlesticks, window coverings, tableware etc. etc.  Wish that I could leave things out on display as it would make the selection process much faster BUT that's just not feasible for many reasons.

GOOD luck with the move.  In the next couple of months I will have to do the same and I'm not looking forward to it.

When my sis had to store everything in her home a few years ago we learned that wrapping good items like pillows, quilts, blankets etc in tissue paper and then placing in clear containers helped, but we discovered those vaccum seal bags and they worked like magic. For curtains and items she needed to hang up we wrapped them in double plastic on top of the tissue paper and placed a hanger system in one of her storage units. It made everything easy to get to and when she finally did find a home it also made it easier to move. Since then my husband and I have owned a mini storage and I always recommend the tubs with sealable lids, labeling them and also the plastic and tissue paper. Also dont forget to place bug boxes in your units, as many dont do this for you. Not mothballs!! The smell carries from unit to unit. (the rubber maid tubs actually cost about the same as those cardboard boxes and can be used over and over again, as well as they stack nicer than the boxes. )

Good Luck with your move. We are getting ready to sell and move ourselves so I know what your going through!

Hey Juliet...I feel your pain. My storage facility is MY HOUSE.. I have a rather LARGE FINISHED BASEMENT and FINISHED GARAGE (Specific for storing staging items) We are in the middle of MAJOR CONSTRUCTION and I need to MOVE everything out and around because we are installing ALL NEW FLOORING, YIKES.

If that is not bad enough I have calls for homes that need pick up (5 in total) GREAT MORE THINGS TO MOVE, just what I need! I never wanted a storage unit off my premises because I like working late into the night. My basement is 1100 square feet and walks right out into side driveway perfect for loading.

Can you keep your linens, pillows, etc in some nice bins in a spare room or space in your own home for the time being?

Talk with you soon, happy moving!

er... spare room?  There isn't one.  This house is the smallest 3500 sq. ft I've ever seen.  Probably because the basement is finished and done up like a man's paradise, with full gym, pool table, aquarium (not working) and **T-V**!!  A massive, dumb thing, that none of us can work.

Nevertheless, I feel for you, Phyl!  But how wonderful that you have FIVE houses to pick up!! Good on you, sista!

Thank you so much Cathy for your advice.  I'm working on all of it, little by little.
