HAVE YOU RECEIVED ONE OF THESE? I've included the exerpt of an email I received this past weekend - twice – purportedly from the IRS! Ask yourself: would you respond? Should you respond? The  answer is a resounding NO!!!

(Did you notice the misspellings? How about “u” instead of “you?”)

I have reported this by emailing this to phishing@irs.gov.   Be very, very cautious at being lured into thinking the IRS emails you – they state on their website that they DO not  email you.

Please be careful….the thiefs are getting more and more sophisticated, and beware of emails from your bank, from Pay Pal, or any other questionable source. There are lots of scamming crooks ready to take your money!

IRS“After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund under section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Teri--I use an accountant and don't email my return directly so I would immediately wonder how the IRS got my email...Others might not figure it out. Good of you to post this information.

Teri - good of you to post this for folks to be aware of. I suspect many would fall for it, despite the red flags. I imagine the scammers feel the IRS name adds credibility...but then pergaps the trust level is not there to begin with. :)

I've gotten that email too, Teri and wondered if there are people actually falling for it.  Of course, I'm sure there are or it wouldn't still be around...sad, really.  But it's good to know where to report it the next time I get one - thanks for sharing that info.

Hi Teri - Thanks for the alert.  I am unlikely to fall for something like this (I am so distrustful and scared of phishing), but I will alert everyone I know who may be more trusting.

Teri, they are just so sneaky! It looked real to me at first glance - but since I KNOW the IRS doesn't email, I decided to forward it on to the IRS...;-)

Jeff, I think many may be fooled by this...just need to get the word out however we can. ;-)

Karen, you're right - not everyone knows that though. ;-)

Hi Lisa and Rita, my gosh, they're sending it everywhere. Sad, but I think you're right about some falling for it. ;-)

Georgina, cute. ;-)

Terry, the more information we share, the better for the unwitting consumer. ;-)

Susan, you're welcome...looks very real though at first glance, don't you think?

Tom, you got that right. ;-)

I haven't received one of these but you're right, Teri, the verbiage is sorta wacky, not to mention the spelling.
