The Mysteries of Cats - Things I Ponder

Cats

I have pretty much always had one or more cats in my household & love their entertaining antics as well as their ability to snuggle in a lap and do that totally relaxing purr of contentment.  But some things about cats are just a mystery:

1.  How can such tiny creatures sound like galloping ponies when they chase each other up and down our stairs or across the floor upstairs?

2.  How do they know how to make that chirping noise at birds outside the window?

3.  How do they decide to turn their noses up at the very food that was all they would eat last week (especially after I have just bought more of that food!)

4.  How do they know the instant I have spread out business paperwork - or even better, wrapping paper! - on the table?  And they must come arrange themselves in the middle immediately!

5.  How do they sense that they have an appointment at the vet and disappear from sight even before I bring their cat carrier in?

6.  How do they manage that totally boneless flexibility that lets them sleep in ridiculous positions?  They could get a day job teaching yoga maybe!

7.  How do they know the instant visitors (especially grandchildren or grand-dogs) have left the house & reappear - usually to demand whatever new food flavor they have decided they are willing to eat this week.

8.  How do they know that if I have dark slacks on the cat with more white fur should come sit on me and if I have white slacks on the gray cat is the one who must decide to cuddle?

Probably my cats enjoy these little mysteries and are snickering over my attempts to solve these puzzles - I think I hear them purring now!

Very cute blog Nancy, and very cute cats.  I'm a big fan of kitties as well.  My grandma lives downstairs from me and when the cats run across the house, it definitely sounds like a stampede of much larger animals.  : )

Thanks for your comment Chris!  These little cuties are sisters and even when we first had them as kittens they could sound like they weighed a ton when they ran upstairs!

Hi Rita - glad you enjoyed it!  We've never had cats with such unusual distinctive coloring & I don't even know how to describe the gray cat's multitude of shades of color mixed in with the gray - except she is a beauty!
