As a loan officer living in Haddonfield, New Jersey for the last 3 years, this town has become my home. An Introduction to Haddonfield New Jersey.....

So, the Big Million Dollar Question...... What Makes a House a Home???? wonderful life

  • Is it your furniture?
  • The color of your home?
  • Your neighborhood?
  • Your big screen tv?
  • Your collection of antiques?

For me, those can be nice, but it's the Memories that I cherish the most and what makes the House a Home for me. Ever see It's a Wonderful Life? I have moved so many times in my life, so many different houses. What made them all special was not the style or type of house, but the holidays shared between friends and family each year making it a home. Watching this movie makes me think of sharing those holidays with family. It's a tradition to watch this movie with my mom every Christmas. What is your favorite holiday and why?

christmas

niece and nephew

I would have to say that Christmas is my favorite holiday. It's special in so many ways. From the giving aspect of it, to sharing it with friends & family, to traveling to relative's homes and spending it with them. Creating many memories that I will never forget.

Left : My mom, dad, sister, and myself.

Right : My niece and nephew, their 1st Christmas with us. Just such a joy spending it with little ones.

thanksgiving birthdays

Then we have Thanksgiving on the left. Another special time to give thanks to the love ones in your life. Surrounded by great food and great people.

On the right, something that we each get to celebrate once a year, birthdays. No explanation needed here.

Halloween

Halloween is a great time of year to be creative. Another event per se that can help give you a time line of living in your home. I can also be one scary pirate.

There are many other holidays throughout the year such as Easter, Independence Day (4th of July), Memorial Day (which is dear to my heart for 2 reasons.....  I served 2 years in the Army & remembering the men and women that serve us now and those that gave their lives for our country), and several other holidays not mentioned.

My overall thoughts as stated, I have so many memories that I will cherish forever.

--Some of these include long trips to my grandparents home living in Wisconsin, traveling from New Jersey, from state to state and looking at all the Christmas decorations at night.

  --The smell of homemade foods.

--And as mentioned, being with loved ones during these times.

--One other aspect of what makes a house a home for me? The ability to have different rooms in your home, that have different meaning and character. Possibly making a room into your office, that reflects your personality. Your bedroom, where you sleep, making it peaceful and relaxing. Maybe finishing your basement and making it a game room. A place where you can relax, watch sports, or relieve some stress. And so many other ideas.

A home is what you make of it. It just doesn't become a home when you sign those closing documents. From day one, never take for granted the time that you share with family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers.... sharing each day as your last, never looking back.... just always looking forward.

As I help many people make one of the biggest decisions in their lives, financing their house, it gives me great pleasure to understand their goals so I can put them in the best possible loan program. So they can relax and make it their home and not just a house. A place to grow...  A place to create memories for life.....

Yay, I got here first!

Aaawwwwwww Jeff, this is great.  I am having such fun reading all these home posts.  I loved reading this one.  You're a family man.  It shows through in your writings.  That movie was always one of my favorites.  I have a VHS copy of it still.  I need to upgrade to disc.  =)

Hi Jeff - what a memory-evoking post this is!  Clearly your family shares much love and good times.  And you're right, those are the very things that make whatever the house is a HOME.  Great pictures you shared with us.  I have my own copy of that movie, too!   ;-)

Sarah..... I know you wrote one earlier. I didn't read any of the other blogs in this contest. I just browsed very quickly just to see if anyone had done a blog on what I was thinking.

In any case, thanks for those polite comments and for stopping by.

Missy....  I loved sharing this also. I am glad that you enjoyed the pictures and thanks for the kind words.

Ann....  thank you very much for such positive feedback. I think many of us loved that movie. What's funny is that my dad has it taped, but when I am over, my mom and I prefer to wait until it comes on. It's just not the same. Thanks for stopping by.

Who knew that we would ever see a childhood picture of Jeff dressed as a pirate.  That is a childhood picture, right?

Jeff, I once had a listing who was motivated but wanted to take their house off the market over the Christmas season.  I saw the way their house was so beautifully decorated, and suggested that they might want to share the spirit of the season with buyers.

The house showed beautifully, and it wasn't a real inconvenience because the only buyers that are looking at listings in late December are the few really motivated ones.

Chris..... yes, that was me last Halloween. Don't you remember me at the party?  lol  Yes, it's a childhood picture smarty....

Brian..... that makes sense. I was going to show two pictures of the house, once with snow out front and once in the summer. I just didn't want ti engulf the post with pictures....  thanks for your feedback and for stopping by.

Jeff is not telling you or bragging about where he lives...so i will tell you.

The town of Haddonfield is probably one of the best places to live in NJ. It has a "home town" feel to it, whether your walking through the historic main street of Haddonfield (haddon Ave) or walking down one of the MANY tree lined streets.

The town of Haddonfield would be suitable for Royalty, Movie Stars and the Wealthiest of people , but it remains low key. Thats the way the people of Haddonfield want it.

Haddonfield is a great place to raise a family, its safe and quiet, yet anything you may need is within minutes...

No wonder why you call it "home" Jeff...

Jeff, i know alot about the area. I grew up in Collingswood (when it was hard to sell a house there, we know how that has changed...wow)

I have always loved Haddonfield and admired the way the people keep it.

Jeff - Beautiful blog!  I think that's something we can all relate to, or something we wish we could relate to.  I agree that families and our memories really make a house - home, whether it be mine parents etc.  I can feel 'at home' at most any relatives home, because it's family!  I love the pictures, and that you pulled from several holidays!!

Dave..... it's amazing what they have done to Collingswood in the last 5 years also. Hence why prices skyrocketed in that area and now property taxes.

And yes, I love this town. I still don't know that many people in the town. I guess it's harder when you don't have kids. But most are so very friendly when walking in town. In any case, thanks for stopping by.

janeanne...... I am glad that you enjoyed this. Thanks for the kind words.

Leigh.... lol   You women...  ;o)  You and Chris always seem to point that stuff out. I am either brave or brainless.  ;o)  Just for the record and for my defense, that was Christmas of 1988. I had 2 months left in the service at that time.

Chris..... you are too funny, as I mentioned to Leigh Brown. No, it's actually not. Do you have a magnifying glass?  It's a flowered tie.

Holly from Perkasie......  thank you very much for that compliment. I am glad that so many could relate to it. Thank you for your feedback and for stopping by.

Danny.... it is a wonderful movie. Not sure why I can watch it every year when I know it by heart per se. In any case, thanks for the nice comments.

Bill......  well, that's a great start, wanting to be around your wife. Family is very nice to have and it is important. Yes, there are people aren't there that are less fortunate, but they make the best of things.  And thanks for the compliment.
