TLW is having "Growing Older Pains" and I'm not having it!*

I don't know about you but I believe there's much more fun and adventure ahead for TLW and all the other kids that hang out here on Active Rain.  There are a number of "Older Kids" like myself that will have to prove them wrong. If you are one of the Older Kids, please share (only) the good things that lie ahead for these lucky kids.

Help me spread the word.  Tell them about the things that you have done in your "Golden Years".  Don't forget to include all the things you are planning to do.  If you're not planning anything and you still have plenty of brain cells left make up something extreme.  Give the kids a thrill, something to look forward to while the years quickly speed by.

It is up to us to give hope to those coming along.  For some reason or another it seems to be inevitable.  People grow old or we all know the alternative and we don't want that.

For my contribution I have to go back three years to when I was only 68.  I spent three weeks trekking around  China and Tibet, something I have wanted to do since I was a child.  Shortly after that I went south to Mississippi as a Red Cross Katrina volunteer.  That took care of another three weeks.  There was still time to fit in a couple of small trips along with a major journey to Argentina and Antarctica.  CrossingDrake Passage the turbulent Drake Passage in a small ship, getting in and out of zodiacs, hiking around on snow and rocks was plenty adventuous for all of us young and old alike.

Believe me, there's more fun in store for this Older Kid.

Now it's your turn. Time to share and make the kids feel optimistic.

TLW, listen up or you'll hear me...

ROAR and you will never forget it!

Kate - I'm not there by a long shot, but when I reach those Golden Years I want to be like George Burns.  End of story.

LOL Kate...

You are my new hero :)

It's folks like you that help those of us who are having growing older pains. I guess it's not so bad.

One question though, do the pains go away?

P.S. And just so you know I'm going to put this post in my post. Please excuse the blog updated email :)

TLW...ROAR!

Hi Kate! What a fantastic post,!  Old is only a state of mind. My folks traveled and took so many interesting trips in their golden years - one place I want to visit is Alaska - so that's on my list!

@TLW I would be afraid to hear Kate  ROAR -- I think she means business! LOL!!

Hi Jason...George Burns delighted in life right to the end.  I think Gracie had a good time too although not nearly long enough.

We should all be as blessed as George Burns.

Hi TLW...What pain?

Do you mean those little twinges you feel from the tip of your toes to the top of your head, 24 hours a day 7 days a week?  If so, I don't know what you're talking about!

Oops!  I just spilled my Margarita(s) on the keyboard.

Hi Mary...At one time I lived in Alaska and I had the pleasure of making a few trips up there after moving back to the lower 48.

Sounds like you're not going to get "older" for a long, long time.  You'll thoroughly enjoy Alaska when you get there.

Kate, Ok let me see.........last year I woke up and got out of bed every day. Does that count?

There are actually a lot of things that I would still like to do. first I have to get rid of all the aches and pains. I think TLW and I both lived too hard and too fast in our younger years. Now we just want to rest. At least we can rest together.

Hi BB...Getting out of bed every day counts big time.  There are days that I have not (I have fibromyalgia) but boy on the days I do I try to make up for it.

In between fun and a bit of travel, I get plenty of rest.  We all need recharging and it sure takes a bit longer each and every year but the years are there and hopefully plenty of them.

What matters is enjoying each one of them whether sitting around relaxing or having a new adventure.

Here's to many more good ones for the two of you.

Over the hill.  Hardly like everyone else I hae things I'm still planning on doing that go beyond sitting in a rocking chair on a porch complaining about the government full time!

Kate now I am really looking forward to those golden years, it seem you are having all sort of fun that I can't find the time for at this stage. Thanks for an inspiring post.

Kate - Hats off to you. I watch some of the younger kids in my office and don't know if they will make it too my age. Life is too short to worry , if your body can handle the extreme sport just find another one. Start reaching within and listen to aspects of your soul that you could never hear before because of all the noise. You haven't lived until you have lived !!!

Kate - Great post!  Age is a mindset - you can get old or you can get experienced.  I prefer the latter.

Kate,

A mere 50 myself, I sometimes wonder who the woman in the mirror with the laugh lines is. And then I say a prayer that her life continues to be filled with laughter to deepen those lines. May she retain her childlike qualities (and lose the childish ones)!

Let me just point out that Kate and Tina Turner are about the same age. Enough said!

GOOD MORNING KATE!  I've yet to color the gray in my hair because it's a good reminder that I am living good and long!  I really admire your zest to get up and move fast - when you can!  Nice post -- Gabrielle
