My goal this month is carefully to read Shift by Gary Keller and really try to apply it. As part of my discipline to accomplish this goal, I am going to share my thoughts about the chapter that I read each day. Hopefully it will encourage you to read Shift also.
Chapter one begins with a review of how markets shift. As Mr. Keller points out, we live through seasonal market shifts each year. June July and August are busy. December generally gives us that welcome time to spend with friends and family.
Seasonal shifts are fine, but the local shifts from sellers market to buyers market are not so welcome. Sales drop off and our income falls. No surprise there. The interesting point however was the distinction that he draws between national market shifts which tend to be slower and local market shifts, which can change seemingly overnight. The trick is to be prepared and ready to deal with the change - to see it as an opportunity. The market will come back to some kind of equilibrium - it always does, and the agent that positions himself or herself will come out stronger for the change.
