5 years ago today I met my father for the first time, I was almost 41 years old that Cinco De Mayo.  It was a great day, one I had dreamed of my entire life.  One that fairy tales are made of.  I grew up always wondering who he was, what he had done with his life, did I have siblings I did not know  about, the questions were endless.

My dad was not the saint I had dreamed of, he was so much more.  He was who he was, and never tried to be anything else.  In 5 years he told me all the stories he could about his life, he told me the truth and he loved me unconditionally.

5 years have gone by since I met my dad and my time with him was limited as he passed away last September.

I will always remember the day I stepped off that plane.  There was never a thought of not going to meet the family I never knew, it was just supposed to be.  We were meant to be together.  We were meant to meet.  I have 3 beautiful sisters, a wonderful step mother and a great family of nieces and nephews that will always be apart of my heart and life.

It amazes me how one phone call, one plane ride and one simple step forward can change your life forever.  My dad may be gone, but the lessons he taught me, the family he gave me and so much more will live on forever.

Happy Anniversary Dad and The Arrington Family - I love you all and miss you all.

Thesa:  You are so fortunate to have been able to spend that time with your Dad.  It is times like those... and the memories they create... that warm your heart when you think of them.  I am happy for you.  Take care... hugs...

Thesa - I remember when you lost your father...

It's amazing how someone can touch our lives so deeply, even when we know them for such a short time.  So glad you and he had those five years of reunion!

Thesa - Beautiful walk into a moment that changed your life.  I also recall when you lost your father.  I think it is wonderful that you got a chance to meet the man and that man was so open about sharing his life with his loving daughter.  Hope all is well, Thesa.

Thesa... I'm sorry that your time with your dad was short.

I didn't meet my dad until I was 11 (nothing like yours) but I remember the exact moment like it was yesterday. It was a strange feeling.  My dad is still living, so I am, indeed, blessed.

Thank you for sharing.

I can't imagine what it must be like to have never met your parent.  I guess the good thing is that you were able to meet him before he passed so that you could really know who he was.

I'm so sorry you lost your father so soon after you met him. But I'm so glad you had the opportunity to meet him! Your attitude should be an inspiration to the multitudes of people who go through life with negativity and a  "poor me" point of view. Good for you!

BTW, I didn't realize we were so close is age.  I turned 41 last December =D

Thesa, I'm glad you got to meet your dad and have that time with him, albeit a short time. How wonderful to be able to continue to share life stories with your siblings and extended family.

Thesa- I too remember when you went to meet your family, and the picture of you guys together. So true how one call and one trip can change someone's life forever.  Nice that you were able to not only meet, but find acceptance with this part of the family.
