In some of the more rural areas here in Middle TN, it is not unusual to roads run through creeks. Most of the time, these are safe to cross even when the water is running over the roadway. nashville home inspection, nashville home inspectorsHowever, we have been experiencing a lot of badly needed rain here lately in the Nashville, TN area as we have been in a severe drought the past few years.

As most of you know, I drive a Prius to all my home inspections and when I encountered this creek the decision had to be made to cross or go another 6 miles out of my way to cross the creek where there was a bridge. I do not advocate driving across rain swollen creeks, and a little common sense goes a long way in these situations. Since the house was only about a mile down the road, and knowing a lot about these types of crossings, I got out of the car, assessed the situation, and made the decision to push forward in my gallant steel steed.

Now getting started was not too bad, but about half way in, the water was up to the floor boards, and the wheels started to slip a little. I could hear the chipmunks under the hood start to complain a little as I eased off the focomplete home inspections brentwood tnot feed to allow the wheels to get some traction. All the while, the gang kept saying, "We think we can, We think we can, We think we can..."

Once we got out of the stronger current, piece of cake! As we started up the bank on the other side, I could hear the chipmunks chiming in unison, "We knew we could, we knew we could, we knew we could..." Once we got to the property, I rewarded them with a few extra sunflower seeds just to muster confidence for a job well done and their strength for the return trip. BTW - The agent who drives a larger car, whimped out and drove around...

Michael you need to put some 35s and a 4 inch lift on the little engine and then you can get in the middle, stop and wallow in it!

Laura, A woman after my own heart... LOL!

Jen, Since the water was 'clear' and I could see what i was getting into and having crossed these many times before, I did not think that it was going to be an issue...

Michael, you're a braver man than I.  I wouldn't have dared to go there in my Camry Hybrid.

Sounds like you AND your chipmunks deserved that extra little treat for a job well done!

But, please, next time drive around the extra few miles. If not for your own safety, at least think of your chipmunk friends!

Save me!

I love the idea of the little car that could.  The chipmunk is cute too.  You have a great day.

Michael - i would think an electrical short in a prius would be very exciting. It might even go boom. by the way., the latest version of Rad and Track is all about energy efficient autos. They say some prius already have 300,000 miles on the original batteries.

Michael,

That would have made me nervous. I, years back. was driving a road about midnight. Ran into a sign that said road flooded.....I ended up backing out.

If you'd floated off downriver would you have written this blog.  If you're children had done this would you be proud?  LOL  I'm glad it worked out but it could have been different.

Wow Michael,

I'm glad you trust your car.  I will have to check out the Prius.  Not sure if my Taurus wagon would have won the battle.  You know - F ound - O n - R oad - D ead.  Oops, I didn't say that.  I live in a Ford town - The Ford employees buy real estate. They need their jobs.

Go Ford Go !!!!
