2009 Lowes and Granbery Elementary in South Nashville TN will team up to Build a Garden.
Soon students, parents and the public will have the opportunity to participate by volunteering and/or donating to the new Learning Garden at Granbery Elementary School.
Recently Granbery won a $4500 grant from the Lowe’s Toolbox for Education program. The Toolbox for Education program was designed to help fund different learning projects at schools. The PTA and PTO organizations are invited to apply.
Karen Hattan, the secretary of Granbery’s PTA said “We wrote the grant with plans for a project to turn an unused courtyard into a learning garden.”
When the benches are installed, the area can be used for outdoor classes.
The school has already been composting and has started the gardening process of tilling, adding the compost, and planting.
There will be a tool shed, butterfly garden, bushes and trees, besides the Vegetable Garden.
The children will learn about growing and tending a garden and the area will now look better too!
To donate or volunteer call the school at 333-5112.
Granbery Already has a very Popular and successful recycling program. This will just add to the Green Thinking that the children in this school are being taught.
