38 Comments on Widget Wednesday~ Tips to enhance your Outside Blog ¡Part Deux!
"The big difference is that it will only show results from your domain!" Not entirely true. For example, if you search for "Myrtle Beach condos" on your blog, the results contain Sponsored Links at the top of the page and in the right column. This widget could potentially send traffic away from your blog ... and directly to your competitor.
Thanks, Jeremy... I had the Google Search widget up, but, did not realize that it limited the search to my blog... this is fantastic! ps- I followed you on Twitter!
Jeremy - ok, I am finally going to get my outside blog going, thanks for this tip, I will be implementing it.
John- ok, not sure why yours only brings up 219. Mine today brought up 238. I believe it is due to Google constantly indexing and re-indexing. Here is my latest search results. As for your second comment about sponsored posts & also filtering the results. I don't believe there is a way at this time to get into the coding and change it to be more unique. Unfortunately the sponsored posts will come up, but they are also there when a consumer does a search on google. Hopefully though, most understand that they are sponsored and don't click off to them. If they don't the difference on the search they see in comparison to normal google is that all the material is straight from your blog. Not you, competing with 240 other agents that wrote something or have some sort of info on the same subject. Also, for your consumers that you want to give an address to begin their searches on communities, you can give that address in confidence that they will be searching your material.
No that's a widget I can wrap my blog around. Limiting the search to my blog huh? Thanks Jeremy that makes a good tip!
Missy- Who is Mr. Blanchard? LOL
Wow, very cool.
If ever any tool added to the "stickiness" of a site, it sounds like this one would be it.
Jeremy, great tip. I will be putting this on my outside blog and our standalone blog!
Jeremy - Is this widget available for us as well to use on our sites that we have aside from ActiveRain? I have already activated it on my outside blog but I'd love to put something like this on greatnevadahomes.com. Thanks.
I had put it on my first outside blog but missed it on the second. After reading this yesterday I looked.
I used to have a Google search on my ActiveRain blog but it stopped working right at some point so I removed it. Cheryl Johnson shared directions long ago.
Hmmm sounds easy enough. 30 seconds ok. Thanks so much!
Question: If my blog isn't developed enough it won't bring much up yet about differene areas ....related to my blog, rigth?
Jeremy it would be fantastic if you guys could get the mybloglog tracking widget for the outside blogs. Any update on that?
OK Jeremy I am going to sign up next week for the outside blog. I have been neglecting my active rain account to much lately.
John- if you need any help with it, do not hesitate to call me.
Bill- I am not sure where that is in the plans.
Anna- As you write more comment, it will bring more search results to your Blog.
Christianne- I am not sure if there is a place you can grab this widget for your other sites.
Jeremy - Where is it exactly that you are putting all these widgets. Is this where you would put the code in your settings in order to see the widgets in the right margin of your blog?
I have this widget on my outside blog. I'm wondering if it's possible to set it up on a wordpress page? I'd love to have something more google-ish than generic for a search on my wordpress. Let me know! Thanks -- Angie
Jeremy, your tips are the bomb! Thanks for making setting up the outside blog such a snap~!
Sharon
sounds like a great tool. Now I just have to learn how. I will check out Brad's tutorial.
Thanks for the tip Jeremy! So much to learn and implement.
