Carol,
Squash? I think I'm correct --my Grannie always had a big garden up until a few years ago and I learned a few things from her.
Hi Carol... YUM! Being from New Jersey we always had Jersey Beefsteak tomatoes growing in the garden each summer! My mouth is watering just thinking about them!
Hi Cynthia - No ... not squash. It's the blooms on a Better Boy tomato plant. But squash would be good too!
Hi Steve - I love Beefsteak tomatoes. Hard to find any that have any taste anymore. Now go make a mater sandwich. :)
Carol,
Those blooms are looking real good. Should be a nice crop. :)
Steve
Carol, I have 2 words for you... NOT FAIR! We don't even have our plants in yet. Soon now though, we had frost a bit ago. :(
Can you ship me some? LOL.
Carol, I am so sorry I won't be having a garden this year....I'll have to enjoy yours!!
Hi Carol - We haven't had a lot of luck with tomatoes. We have so many large trees that there isn't much sun or suitable planting area for tomatoes. We also get some scorching hot days in summer so we can't put pots on the pool deck which is sunny - too hot and it burns plants. Luckily our local market has vine ripened tomatoes that are almost as good as homegrown (but not quite). We do have fruit trees though, so that makes up for it.
Carol: I have a complaint. Why don't they have Better Girl tomatoes ? That is blatant discrimination. I love tomatoes... yum. When I was little... I had my very own tomato garden in the back yard. Twenty plants... four plants I planted every week... so when they started producing... I had them for a very long time. Yum !
Very nice picture. I love tomatoes. I didn't plant this year, but I am going to start visiting the farmers market on Saturdays.
Steve - Thanks! So far there are about 17 blooms like that on this particular plant.
Andrea - Sorry! LOL We love out tomatoes in this house. During the off season my husband goes through withdrawal since those hothouse tomatoes have no flavor.
Carole - Im sorry too. But you can enjoy ours. We like to share. :)
Susan - One house we lived in had that problem with the gardening effort, too. Then we discovered the double whammy was no sun AND the fact that the trees were black walnut trees. Totally toxic to a tomato garden.
Karen Anne - I don't know! Maybe they do ... and if I find one I'll plant it in your honor! How's that?
Chris - We still go to the Farmer's Market ... just for other things. We don't have the time or energy to establish a huge garden, so my squash, cukes, beans, onion, lettuce, broccoli, etc. will have to be grown by someone else.
hi Carol, really nice/sharp photography. My dad used to grow tomatoes but they never flowered like these. Gorgeous! Have a great weekend!
Hey this looks really familiar, LOL! Looks like I won't be the only one with a nice garden this year.
