The Electric Nightmare

Ok, I searched my computer picture files to come up with this mostrosity of an electric panel. I thought we could make a game of it. Let's see how many different defects you can come up with for this one picture. I wrote over a page on it originally. Whew! I'm too tired to list them again, so you guys do it, ok?

Happy defect finding!

Kevin

I give or should say Uncle. I do know fuses aren't likely to be a pleaser for the insurance company. Also it looks like the incoming service is a bare wire right next to a metal downspout. Maybe... Ooch if anyone touches that in a rain storm.

Kevin---nice to see you.  Hope you have just been too busy to play in the rain:)  I love the SEC coming into the panel.  Other than that I say just toss it----and put a new one indoors somewhere:)

Kevin, the box looks fine other an a couple of thing are apparently a little obvious, Handles missing to the pull out, over fusing, not securely anchored, not properly labeled, wiring not secured, weather mast missing, No AFCI, system not grounded, etc, etc....  old and out dated system. Just replace the whole thing.

I think Roy and Charles covered most of the stuff, although I am curious as to what the 2x4 is doing inside the box. It doesn't appear to be connected to anything.

I find it strange that it looks like the panel is located on the exterior of the home.

Kevin,

Nice panel. Good to see that you popped in again.

Well thanks, I'm glad someone noticed I was gone.

Anyway, this panel was located on the outside of the house, pretty much exposed to the weather, and anyone who wanted to mess with you would just simply unscrew a few of the over-sized fuses. ( That could leave you in the dark). The frayed entrance cable next to the downspout adds to the adventure. Loose and frayed wires coming in the top and side of the box are another special treat. No mast, no grounding rod, and low-flying wiring that could possibly decapitate you pretty much complete the ensemble. I was actaully very thankful that it wasn't raining on the day of this inspection, because I'm pretty sure that the gutter pipe and the surrounding ground would have been an electricfrying experience.

PS: Did ANYONE see the Quotation mark in place of the apostrophe in the title???  Hmmm.....

Kevin,

I know, the defect is that it is not solid aluminum branch circuit wiring...how about that.

Hey Kevin where you been; hope its because you have been tooooooo busy to stop by for a visit. don't stay away so long next time.

I think most everything has been picked and prodded from that box...throw it out and get a new one.
