The Perfect LockBox

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

It there a perfect lockbox? Are the electronic lockboxes, that store all entry information the highest and best that we can offer to the seller. Personally I think so. They are also easier to use for several reasons.

First you don't have multiple codes to deal with. Secondly, there is no way anyone but a licensed agent with an electronic key can enter the property. Third, they are easier to put back together and less likely to have the key lost or misplaced.

Although, the electronic lockbox is not without its' problems. Sometimes they mis-function. If the box is in direct sunlight, sometimes they will not function. You have to shade to box for it to work.

I have had 3 electronic lockboxes over the past 5 to 6 years that just quit working. I have been told that they have a battery inside ~ but have to be taken apart to change the battery. We have had to take off one door knob to remove one electronic lockbox and had to cut the lockbox off on the other listing to remove it.

Have any of you had problems with the electronic lockboxes and if so what what did you learn and what did you do to remove the box?

Over 2,000 homes sold…..

I did not know that people were using anything other than electronic key boxes.  We have about 50 lockboxes and I have only had a couple of failures over the past 5 years.  Are people still using combo boxes?  I have not seen one since 2002.....

Tim: Most all of the foreclosure homes have the combo boxes, here in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Many agents who list primarily new construction use the combo boxes, too. What caused your electronic boxes to fail?

Sandy, Considering the cost of the lock boxes, they should be fool proof and last forever.

Jean: Preach it sister, for what they cost, they should last for our entire career in real estate. The bad thing is that we have never been told that they could malfunction.
