Kiwanis - Fundraiser a Success!

Today was the annual Kiwanis Golf Tournament Fund-raiser
held at Mare Island Golf Course at Mare Island in Solano County, CA.  This is the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi.  The efforts and contributions made today, helped to raise over $15,000.00 for local non-profit charities in and around Solano County.

Four scholarships were given to Benicia High School students who had been selected by the Kiwanis based on certain criteria and accomplishments. These included, but were not limited to community service and events, GPA scores, and overall academic achievements.

Donations were also made to the "RELAY for LIFE"
charity where funds are used to research and develop a cure for cancer.  This is a group on a mission. The Real Estate community in Solano County is a huge supporter of this worthy and much needed charity.  Everyone has or knows someone who is affected by this terrible disease, we must continue to find a cure...and we will!!

The last proceeds that were raised go to the St. Paul's "FEED THE HUNGRY" program.  In addition to the donation, many Kiwanis members donate and volunteer their time to cook and serve the hungry families in and out of the area.  This combined effort by local businesses, Realtors, Lenders and Title Companies, has helped to raise over $15K for Kiwanis, two years in a row. WOW!!

At the end of the golf tournament, they had raffles, drawings and auctions for over 50 different gifts, prizes, trips, golf passes, certificates and much much more.  We don't have an amount yet on how much was raised from this portion of the program today.

My team today included, Dave McCracken (Countrywide) , Chatte Mitchell, (Countrywide) and Phil Easton (First American Title).  We shot a very respectable 57 (13 under par).  It was a best ball scramble, and boy did I have to scramble.  Dave and Chatte are excellent golfers.

I want to thank our local Realtors, Lenders and Businesses for making this years event a "Total Success" It is people like you who make a difference in this world, and you are appreciated by so many people you may never know or get to meet!  A big heartfelt thanks goes out to the Solano County Community, and the Kiwanis for their involvement and participation at these fund-raising events!

It was a great day, awesome weather, a good cause, and oh yeah, .... we took 1st Place!  This was an exciting day, in so many ways, for so many people.  I was proud and yet humbled to be a part of it!

I have said this many times, and I'll say it again; It is an honor and a priviledge to be part of such a generous, and supportive community of businesses and people in Solano!!

Below are the golfers that supported and played in todays event.  Trophies were given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams!

Brad...sounds like a totally rewarding day...Congratulations!

I am on the Board of a non-profit. We are just getting into the world of fundraising. Any suggestions of what type of organizations we should be grooming?

Joan - it was very rewarding! Thanks!!  I lived in Concord for 9 years, but it was Concord, CA.  Not sure in your area what organizations exist that need support or grooming.  I would just follow your heart, and go where you're needed!  There are so many people that are less fortunate than us, I believe any organization you can help groom, is the greatest gift you can give back to the world.  Just follow your heart!  :-)
