Best real estate in BC is Salt Spring Island. Now I know some people are going to say their town is the best but I beg to differ. Salt Spring has it all, sense of community, friendly population, great local food, wine, cheese, a town with out big box stores (that suck the life out of the towns).
Yes not all people like salt spring there are the naysayers but city life is just not for me. Do you know your neighbors? Do you visit with people? Can you chat with people in coffee shops? Not in the cities people don't have time.
Cities are to impersonal. People walk down the road talking on their cell phones and don't care if you fell over and had a heart attack. They would just keep walking.
Not here 80% of the people chat is line for groceries, chat with the gas attendants, they are friendly.
Then there is the official Salt Spring wave or nod when driving. Once you have been here a month or two and if you don't drive a grey sedan but have a island car (one with some character) then you will start to get the nod. If you don't wave back ( I usually just do the once up on the index finger) then you are out of the loop for a long time.
My bottom line is Salt Spring is a COMUNITY of PEOPLE. It is the people who make it great and the best place to live in BC. The fact we have the some of the nicest scenery, water vista, Artist, Authors and the unique town of Ganges just adds to the place.
