From Mommy to Mom to Mother - Happy Mothers Day!

My sister Mary Margaret sent this lovely poem to me today.  It made me smile and chuckle as to how true the words ring.  My Mom passed over several years ago and there is hardly a day when I don't ask myself these questions.....I wonder what Mom would say' or I wonder what Mom would do'. Many times I can still see her smiling and laughing and making 'light' of a situation.  She could always find the humor is just about every situation imaginable. She was the kind of Mom that had all my friends laughing off their chairs.  They thought she was cool and always wanted her to be part of the crowd.  Now that was one smart Mom knowing how to keep her eye on the kids!

Read the poem and share your thoughts! What are some of your favorite memories of your Mom?

MOMMY - MOM - MOTHER

Real Mothers don't eat quiche;
They don't have time to make it.

Real Mothers know that their kitchen utensils
Are probably in the sandbox.

Real Mothers often have sticky floors,
Filthy ovens and happy kids.

Real Mothers know that dried play dough
Doesn't come out of carpets.

Real Mothers don't want to know what
The vacuum just sucked up.

Real Mothers sometimes ask 'Why me?'
And get their answer when a little
Voice says, 'Because I love you best.'

Real Mothers know that a child's growth
Is not measured by height or years or grade...
It is marked by the progression of Mommy to Mom to Mother...

The Images of Mother

4 YEARS OF AGE - My Mommy can do anything!

8 YEARS OF AGE - My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!

12 YEARS OF AGE - My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.

14 YEARS OF AGE - Naturally, Mother doesn't know that, either.

16 YEARS OF AGE - Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned.

18 YEARS OF AGE - That old woman? She's way out of date!

25 YEARS OF AGE - Well, she might know a little bit about it!

35 YEARS OF AGE - Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion.

45 YEARS OF AGE - Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?

65 YEARS OF AGE - Wish I could talk it over with Mom.

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure she
carries, or the way she combs her hair.

The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes,
Because that is the doorway to her heart,
The place where love resides.
The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole,
But true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.
It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she
Shows, and the beauty of a woman with passing years only grows!

Lovely, lovely, lovely. Especially as your mom isn't here to celebrate (nor is mine), it's a very generous post.

If you're a mom, let me wish you all the best!

Hey Irene......your post today was awesome!  I feel the same way....just do it and the magic happens!

My Mom really was a hoot.  I think she missed her calling and should have been a commediane!

Thanks & Happy Mothers Day to you!

Hi Anna,

I saw a lot of Mothers Day tributes on AR today but I must say yours really hit home.  I'm lucky to still have my mom and mother in law.

18 YEARS OF AGE - That old woman? She's way out of date!

I actually have an 18 year old daughter but luckily she doesn't feel this way about me.  I had to tell HER what Twitter was lol.

Ken....thanks!  Hope you had a great day celebrating your Mom, Wife....whoever.  Celebrating is the key every day!!

Jenny.....LoL you had to teach your 18 year old about twitter lol for sure.  You are lucky to still have both.  I miss mine....but I know they're always around creating some fun stuff for all.  Hey I talked with my sister from Toronto and she says hi.  She works at Reyerson downtown and is working on her masters as well.  Busy gal.

Have a GREAT week!
