The other day I fried my keyboard on my aging refurbished Toshiba M-200. Raindrops--oops! I can still use my Toshiba, but it doesn't have quite the functionality it had with the keyboard working. Off and on I have been reading every thing I can find on new tablets. I have checked NAR's affinity partners and ran quotes. They all start out at an affordable price. After I add features I want--I have put myself out of the ball park.
After pricing Lenovo, Toshiba M400, HP I decided to go back and revise my quote with Gateway. I accessed online chat. It had been a really long day and I consumed a lot of caffeine--in short I let the guy on the other end really have it. I told him how I used my computer and why I used it in the way I did. I told him that I had been working with Cody Paulsen and asked if I needed to call back for Cody in order for Cody to get credit IF I chose to buy. He sent me an email and asked me to look at his signature. I laughed. He is the Direct Sales Manager.
Well, I really let him have it then. I poured it all out. I told him I thought Gateway was making a major mistake by--1: Not target marketing the real estate industry, Agents in particular, 2: Not offering an affinity discount to NAR members like IBM and HP.
I invited him to google me, which he did and thought it was "cool". My subtle point is that I am an Active Blogger. The world pretty much knows when I am happy to delighted, and also when I am frustrated, angry, or disappointed in service and/or product. I'm guilty of a little mind play here. If he had any doubts that his product would absolutely delight me, he would not want to be working with a "Blogger", (not a tech blogger).
Finally at the end of this custom design period we decided we had in effect created a work of art, a mean mobile machine, and it should be named. So, everyone--Help me name this computer. It can be purchased by name through Billy Van Engen's sales team. To get special consideration email him direct: billy.vanengen@gateway.com . Billy says that he will distribute emails to his team members with special instructions (he may not be able to help you personally, but he plans to keep an eye out for us). Special consideration will be given to anyone ordering a duplicate of the Tablet design below. Current code name for the design is: Suzi's Blog.
Further, I found that Gateway does have a REALTOR discount, its just not listed at NAR and I think you have to negotiabate it, or at least let him know you are a REALTOR. I just confirmed with VREO that R.E.D. is compatible with Win Vista. Yippee!

I am really excited to see the combination of One Note 2007, Small Business 2007, and Vista Business. Clients already thought my set up was "Cool". Now, I will be able to do Power Point presentations, and so many other functions more effectively. I can't wait until my Magic Assistant arrives!
Help me name this configuration! So far we have:
- Freedom
- Active Freedom
- Magic Assistant
- Edge
- REM (short for Real Estate Magic) anecdote: even using my dated Tablet, my last clients would say "Work your Magic"
