The other day I fried my keyboard on my aging refurbished Toshiba M-200. Raindrops--oops! I can still use my Toshiba, but it doesn't have quite the functionality it had with the keyboard working. Off and on I have been reading every thing I can find on new tablets. I have checked NAR's affinity partners and ran quotes. They all start out at an affordable price. After I add features I want--I have put myself out of the ball park.

After pricing Lenovo, Toshiba M400, HP I decided to go back and revise my quote with Gateway. I accessed online chat. It had been a really long day and I consumed a lot of caffeine--in short I let the guy on the other end really have it. I told him how I used my computer and why I used it in the way I did. I told him that I had been working with Cody Paulsen and asked if I needed to call back for Cody in order for Cody to get credit IF I chose to buy.  He sent me an email and asked me to look at his signature. I laughed. He is the Direct Sales Manager.

Well, I really let him have it then. I poured it all out. I told him I thought Gateway was making a major mistake by--1: Not target marketing the real estate industry, Agents in particular, 2: Not offering an affinity discount to NAR members like IBM and HP.

I invited him to google me, which he did and thought it was "cool". My subtle point is that I am an Active Blogger. The world pretty much knows when I am happy to delighted, and also when I am frustrated, angry, or disappointed in service and/or product. I'm guilty of a little mind play here. If he had any doubts that his product would absolutely delight me, he would not want to be working with a "Blogger", (not a tech blogger).

Finally at the end of this custom design period we decided we had in effect created a work of art, a mean mobile machine, and it should be named. So, everyone--Help me name this computer. It can be purchased by name through Billy Van Engen's sales team. To get special consideration email him direct: billy.vanengen@gateway.com . Billy says that he will distribute emails to his team members with special instructions (he may not be able to help you personally, but he plans to keep an eye out for us). Special consideration will be given to anyone ordering a duplicate of the Tablet design below. Current code name for the design is: Suzi's Blog.

Further, I found that Gateway does have a REALTOR discount, its just not listed at NAR and I think you have to negotiabate it, or at least let him know you are a REALTOR. I just confirmed with VREO that R.E.D. is compatible with Win Vista. Yippee!

I am really excited to see the combination of One Note 2007, Small Business 2007, and Vista Business. Clients already thought my set up was "Cool". Now, I will be able to do Power Point presentations, and so many other functions more effectively. I can't wait until my Magic Assistant arrives!

Help me name this configuration! So far we have:

  1. Freedom
  2. Active Freedom
  3. Magic Assistant
  4. Edge
  5. REM (short for Real Estate Magic) anecdote: even using my dated Tablet, my last clients would say "Work your Magic"

Suzi, so... how much is this baby?  Are you able to sign winforms on the tablet and fax directly?  I say call it Suzi's Tab!

Hi Suzi,

In 2005, Gateway ran full page ads in lots of publications showing a Realtor with a Tablet, in a variety of settings - usually a coffee shop. They were hot tickets, these Tablets. I have one that I love, having bought in December '05. Only gripe is battery life - this one only keeps a 50-55% charge, and those darn things cost over $100. (In comparison, I purchased the whole unit for $1100 at BestBuy - figuring it was a mistake in pricing... shortly thereafter,  the price went to $1600).

Would I buy Gateway again? Probably.

What is a good name for their new units? How about Freedom?

Irina: I can't quote the exact $ amount because we don't want to start a price war. Look at the features--this is not your ordinary tablet. The point is to access the team mentioned, first by email. Be absolutely sure to mention: Suzi's Blog. Be sure to mention that you are an ACTIVE Blogger, What you do (at first we were thinking of making this a Realtor only package--then Billy extended this deal to anyone who specifically inquires mentioning Suzi's Blog until we name the computer.

In the research I did prior to getting my credit card out with Billy, other companies would have pushed these features to the $2500 to $3000 range. The RAM alone was quite pricey in comparing to other companies.

My motto is: The Truth Will Set You Free. If anyone else goes for this "prototype". We want to Blog about our experiences with Windows Vista, our on-line reps, and service after the sale. This is a time for GATEWAY to shine. I expect extremely good follow up because they know I, and most likely anyone else who inquires will be an active Blogger as well. I would say, there is power in numbers. The base model was released 2 days ago. Mine is expected to arrive June 4th.

This customized model may receive special attention and advertising from Gateway Later. So, let's forego Suzi's Tab for a name with a little more punch, and one that people will relate to outside our circle.

So far we have: 1. Freedom, 2. Magic, 3. Magic Mobility, .

I am going to share a secret with you. Though I am not a Tech Blogger, I did reference him to my Active Rain Blog at which my deal got progressively sweeter thereafter. Maybe: Active Freedom, or Active Power.

Vreo says that R.E.D. is compatible with Vista. So business as usual for Real Estate Tablet users--except faster, more enjoyable...
