Take Youself out of the Equation

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker 69190

Like anyone who may read this, I too am human. There are days when I wake up and right from the start everything seems to go wrong. I am completely used to one phone call or canceled appointment rearranging my entire day, that's just part of the business.

However, like everyone else in the world there are days when the whole dynamic just gets to me. Having your entire day wrapped tightly around the fingers of anothers' whims can sometimes be more than just a little irritating. But, most of time you simply learn to accept it as fact and move on.

But what about the days that you clearly have a lack of acceptance for all the reality that is breaking down before your very eyes? What about the days that you feel as if you are trapped in quicksand and the harder you struggle to break free the further you sink into the oblivion? What about the days that you would rather do anything else in the world than go out and chase after whatever you can find?

It's on these day that I love the fact that I run my own business the most. Anger and frustration are clouds that hang over your day and often lead to poor judgment on your part. They are a force to be reckoned with and most of the time, time itself is just what you need. You're too close to the situation to change it from the inside, after all you are the situation.

On those days you need to come to the realization that no matter how hard you try, there is little hope that you will be productive. Even if you were to encounter someone who could use your help, it's more than likely that you are in no shape to truly help them anyway. So take yourself out of the equation so you can get your mind right. You have no idea how much it can help. Besides, who wants to deal with someone having a bad day from the start?

I have always been told this. Take yourself and your emotions out of the deal. Most times if you do this, it will work itself out.

Remember to check your emotions at the door and yes leave yourself out of the deal! The best example of someone not doing this is going into a store and having the clerk thats waiting on you be in a bad mood. You usually will leave the same way. A clerk who is in a good mood, friendly and smiling will leave you that way as well.

In our business of real estate it is easy to catch that Bad attitude when dealing with people if you allow it to happen, whether face to face or even on the phone. Learning to take a deep breathe and relaxing before someone else comes along helps as well as remembering how people may see us throughout the day.

JL, that may sound silly, but how about going for a quick run or walk. That usually clears my head, and I can face the world with a different attitude.:)

JL:  I'm having one of those quicksand days now.  If I didn't have an appointment scheduled for late afternoon, I would give myself the day off.

JL- Is today one of those days?  You are right that sometimes we do need to just give ourselves a mental health day.  I find it very hard though because I keep telling myself I should be doing x, y or z!  Hope you have a wonderful week!

We all have those days from time to time.  You're right that its times like those that its good to be self employed.  You can take some time away and come back fresh.

Honeycutt- It's good advice.

Cathy- That's a great example, I can't count the times that I have gotten to a clerk at any store and they seemed irritated that I was there.

Joanna- I jog just about everyday just to clear my head. It doesn't sound silly at all to me.

Sharon- It is easier said than done, especially when you're busy.

Chris Ann- I had a late appointment yesterday as well, but I was doing alright. Sorry to hear you were having a rough one.

Kim- I find it hard to take a day off myself, but sometimes you just have to walk away to get your head straight.

JL, it's difficult to change the "mood" when you're a solo business person.  Sometimes you have to get out and take a walk, read the Bible or other motivational material, or go to an event with positive people!
