lake 1  I love the Texas Hill Country and you will never hear me stop telling everyone what a wonderful place it is to live, work and play...and we do play!

I was kayaking with my son on Canyon Lake this weekend and we were stopped to rest and have a drink when Jordan commented on how fortunate we are to live in such a pretty place.  Of course his comment got me thinking about why summertime is so awesome in the Texas Hill Country and my list-mania kicked in and I just had to share my top reasons why the Hill Country is great in the summertime!

1.  All those gorgeous blue lakes with refreshing water!!!  There are tons of lakes to enjoy all over the Texas Hill Country.  I happen to be blessed to live on one of them...Canyon Lake.  I have lived at the lake since 1992 and I LOVE this place!  I lay on my hammock and watch the sunsets and the sailboats breeze by...awesome!  Of course lakes bring opportunities for fishing, water skiiing, wake boarding, knee boarding, swimming, kayaking, jet skiing, sailing and just plain old cool refreshing fun!

2.  All that awesome music!!!  The Texas Hill Country is known for it's music...festivals, fairs, concerts and jamborees abound for the music lover.  There is everything from wanna be talents who are diamonds in the rough that just wander up and start playing for you to full blown multi-artist Americana concert events and if you are in the right place at the right time...somebody famous like Willie, etal may just make a surprise appearance!  Gruene Hall is one of the better known venues for catching the up and comers and stars of today!

stream

3.  All those pretty streams and rivers!!!  Where there are lakes there are bound to be streams and rivers and the Texas Hill Country has a nice offering of gorgeous streams and rivers for your enjoyment!  One of the best ways to cool off on a summer day is to "float" or "tube" a Hill Country river.  My personal fave is the Comal River in New Braunfels.  Just get in your tube with some cold beverages and some good friends and relax for the gentle ride with occasional exciting rapids along the way.  Nothing quite like a float down the river!

park

4.  All those awesome parks!!!  There are no shortage of parks in the Texas Hill Country and they are beautiful.  There is something for everyone.  Camping, picnicking, hiking, golf, kayaking, tubing, bird watching, photography and much more.  The parks are an affordable way to enjoy the scenery and the beauty of the Texas Hill Country.  From Enchanted Rock in Fredericksburg to Landa Park in New Braunfels, you will have an adventure filled summer frequenting the parks of the region.

road

5.  All those miles and miles of roads!!!  Sometimes the best thing to sooth the soul is a nice country drive and the Texas Hill Country has thousands of miles of scenic highways and country roads to explore.  It is a haven for motorcycle enthusiasts, cyclists, and folks just cruising in their cars.  There is a never ending supply of scenic vistas, colorful wildflowers, wildlife and Texas Friendly folks who will wave at you like they have known you all your life!

You can probably tell that I am passionate about this unique region of the Lone Star state!  I love living here, working here and playing here and hope to discover more interesting and entertaining things to share with you!
