Victoria Day, this year on May 18th,  is celebrated throughout Canada as Queen Victoria's Birthday, and being the first long weekend of the season the holiday timing couldn't be better.

The tourist businesses and attractions are opening up and our city is putting on its early show with new flowers.

Victoria is steeped in history as well as the arts. The Canadian Pacific Ballet is putting on a special performance of Victoria and Albert at the Royal Theatre and the McPherson Theatre, for this weekend only, 16 - 17 May, 2009.

You can also see what life was like for soldiers in 1859 or World War II at a Military Encampment, showing British Columbia’s military history and re-enacted by over 30 volunteers at the Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Site. You will see demonstrations, uniforms and historic weapons.

The 72nd Victoria Highland Games & Celtic Festival is being held at Topaz Park. The weekend is packed with music, dance, games and competitions. You can even stop by the Single Malt Whisky Tasting School, and watch some Haggis Hurling competitions.

Come and join in the fun this weekend - May 16 and 17, 2009

David - Hope you are having great weather for your weekend events. The weatherman here was threatening snow for part of our Victoria Day Weekend but do far early morning frost was the closest thing to snow we have seen. Saturday here was very cool and wet. Sunday cool and sunny and today cool and sunny.

Hi Kathy - we had fantastic weather yesterday. Today, being the parade day - the weather is cooler, with no sun so far (8 a.m.)! We hope it will warm up soon!

Cheers!
