Someone's Trash is Someone's Treasure

In this case I'm talking building type products and a way to save money.

Building a homes with reclaimed materials sounds cool - if you can find the goods. They may be easier to find then you think.

Some places to find used or even sometimes new building materials:

  Habitat ReStores

  Old homes being torn down

Construction sites that have left over materials in a throw-away pile

How about Dumpster Diving?  For sure anything you find is Free

Use your imagination; there are items at your fingertips. Watch for folks that are having a home or     commercial remodeled. They would rather give it away then to have to haul it off.

Ceil went to a garage sale over the weekend and came home with two brand new (never opened) Sherwin Williams paint (quarts) in white. 25 cents each. Just what she needed to paint some shelves. The folks had remodeled and never opened the paint. Now that's a bargain. They had some nice door knobs and kitchen pulls but we didn't need any, but if you did they would have given them to you.

    Howdy there Carl and Ceil

Sorry for being a day late commenting on such a fine post, my friends

There is a modular home manufacturer, that has big wooden boxs out front of their business. That you can get some real nice wood out of. For free. I think that a real nice thing they do for folks, around here.

That sure is good of them to do that for folks that can use the wood. Right now I am needing small piece of sheetrock and I hate to buy a whole sheet to fix a place in our ceiling in the utility room. Recently had plumbing problems with a leak in the upstairs bathroom. Yes, even inspectors have plumbing leaks. Didn't know it was leaking util I looked up and saw the ceiling was holding water and what a mess when I punctured the ceiling. It was half a day job cutting a whole in the closet wall upstairs behind the tub and also fixing the ceiling.

Y'all are so right.   You can find good materials for free or little money.  Lots of good lumber and materials go to the landfill every year because builders can haul it off cheaper than store or give it away.  So don't hesitate to go ask if you see a pile at a construction site.  It's the greeen thing to do.

Hey Ms Ricki glad you stopped by. I have found they are always glad to let you pick up some items you can use. I always ask first. Next time I see a home being built I'm going to see if I can find that small piece of sheetrock that I need. I already have installation - had to take the wet out and replace - just need the sheerock piece.

Hope you can Don are doing good up your way.
