I always recommend homeowners carrying as much liability on their house as possible. Some people respond by saying I'm never having guests so no one will get hurt at my house, therefor i don't need that. Here are two liability claims that were presented to insurance companies. 1) A couple went on vacation and forgot to shut the garage door. When some scoundrel noticed the situation he attempted to help himself to the contents of the garage. Unfortunately, he accidentally activated the automatic garage door and locked himself in. The garage door was faulty and would not open again. The new tenant survived on cat food and Dr. Pepper until the family returned from vacation. A few weeks later the homeowners were presented with a law suit for negligence on keeping a faulty garage door.2) A lady was sued by her neighbor when she accidentally ran over the neighbor's fingers with her vehicle. What was the gentalmen's fingers doing under her back wheel? He was trying to steal her tire.Although i highly doubt either claim will pay out any money, i suggest having as much liability insurance as possible including excess liability or umbrella insurance.
