We are constantly seeing different sites talk about their community and school info links as if they are the Holy Grail. Big sites like Yahoo, Zillow and www.Agentopolis.com are investing time and money building out their community and school links system and as you know, real estate agents can subscribe to a number of different services which provide this information to your site for your visitors. But the question I have is "Who Really cares?"
I live in a large metro area and If I am going to move from the suburb I am in to a different suburb, it's because I already know about the community and schools, not because I was influenced by some well written data laden page about that suburb/city. In the Minneapolis Metro area most parents have a good idea of how school districts rank and for most of us, we are still choosing where we live as it relates to our jobs and the commute versus any info I might glean from a community or school info page. The other obvious reason to have these links on an agent web site is for relocations. If I am moving to Denver from Minneapolis I can see where this info would be important but I wonder how many hits any of us get on our websites from people who are relocating.
For me the bottom line is I think having the community and school links is a good idea and I will keep them on my site but I'm curious if any of us are doing it because of consumer demand or because everybody else is doing it.
Any thoughts?
FYI, Agentopolis has recently added a number of features to the free listings we provide to real estate agents nationwide. We have seriously upgraded the look and feel of the agent profile page to include links to community and school information for the city the agent is listed in. We also added the city and school info links to all property listings which displays the info for the city where the home is located.
