I've been getting very excited about blue paint color for walls. Did you know blue is the number one paint colour in homes in North America?

When using blue paint be careful not to select drab or dated looking colours. Blues of today are warm (hint of red undertone) and fresh.

Here are a few photos for some inspiration for you!

This fresh blue looks stunning against the white trim and marble. Adding in the blue and white ceramics provide a lovely grounding for the walls.

Blue looks striking when combined with black and white! This blue reminds me of Bombay Saphire's blue gin bottle...makes me thirsty for a Bombay Saph &T!

I'm so loving this door!

Due to my desire to put blue *somewhere* in my house, my daughter will be getting a room in Robin's Egg blue! Sigh, I'll have to wait till the front entry is done first before beginning yet another project!

Love the blue Dane!  Such a vibrant, fun shade too.  That ceiling is gorgeous is the first photo.

Wow! It's been so long since I've seen you here Dane!

Now I have to admit, my posse and I make fun of how horribly 70's blue is when used in decor - with the single exception of peacock (2nd photo above). But here I sit in a little pale, almost smokey cornflower room on a faded teal silk slipper chair, and rather than paint, I am relishing the light softness of it and the way it makes me feel cool and fresh. So blue is back. Yikes!!!

Dane, personally I love blues, all shades and tints.  It has been with me since mom first let me pick my bedroom color MANY years ago.  Nice inspiration photos!

Hi Michelle, it can be a fun shade can't it!

Cathy, it was so hard to pick which fotos to use...I have come across so many that I love over the last couple of months. But the black white and blue...gets my heart pumping! That is soooo geeky, I know.

Jennifer, I am guilty as well. The peacock or bright teal was the first to get under my skin...seems since then that a few blues have cracked this nut! BTW, I was looking to read your blog and you've been mia (understandable you've made some big changes!) as well! Nice to see you here! And you can bet I'll let you know when we are passing through Penn.

Ginger, you have been on trend with the majority of people then! I am getting in to colour late in life. I'm so excited with colour lately...just wondering when I'm going to 'get it' with the whole yellow thing...I'm a bit skeptical of yellow!

Kathy, first...great photo!! I love the room too. The ceiling and chandelier are beautiful and very girly...I like girly...and bling...this room definitely has bling!

Hey Fernando! Like you I would not touch blue...in decorating nor clothing...now I'm gushing over it for decor (expecially for a feminine room with a soft blue) but there is no way I'll wear it! Well, ok, I saw a pair of shorts at Winners (TJ Maxx) and a pair of killer shoes...but I just couldn't do it!

I still like my walls a neutral colour, but I will use blue accents. I am hoping to get a cottage and I will use blue. It is so fresh, crisp and clean with white.

As far as clothes I have a large selection of my favourite non colour - black.  I wear blue jeans (the darker the better - looks better on my thighs)  I did buy a coral dress for a wedding. - Big Step for me.  I hope I can go through with the dress.

LOL, My closet is full of blacks and tans and my favorite jeans are my black Hudsons and a really dark indigo Andy Worhol Factory Levis...which have a hole in the crotch so I can't wear them till I patch it...just looked at them :( my husband and nanny have been washing them with regular detergent and not the 'for darks' I bought!

I think you'd look amazing in coral...go for it. One night living as someone else...see what it's like!

I love the blue of the walls in the first photo.  I think my son wants his room painted that colour.  May just happen. :)

I always thought of blue as a condition and not a colour until we decided to use a cool grey blue as an accent colour in our family room.  Now I love it!  I also love the combinations made possible such as blue and green, blue and brown - they are so much fun.

Must confess I'm not too much of a blue fan for staging.  Seems many people have painted shades that are not too attractive or neutral enough.  Would love some neutral color suggestions from BM or SW paint lines that I can pass on to others!

I love the aqua's (so fresh) and the grey / blue's (relaxing) out there now.  But I still feel that blue's are best suited to bedrooms and bathrooms.

Dane,  Hey stranger!  How are you?

I LOVE blue.  All shades.  I had all of my ceilings painted a very light robins egg blue and I love love love them!  My den is robins egg and chocolate, my bedroom is a teal and chocolate.  I LOVE the first photo.  The ceiling is amazing!  (and I like the blue, lol).

I hope you are doing well :)

There are blues and there are blues.   Some need to go and some need to stay.

When living in a home ...all blues are great.  When selling the home...............it's different

I, too, love blue! It is funny, though, with staging, I'll go into one house and tell them their dated blue - wallpaper, carpet, toilet- has to go, but in the next house I'll recommend blue!

In staging, I like to use a blue/gray in bathrooms, often paired with chocolate brown. The bathroom's usually small enough that if people really didn't like blue it would be an easy re-paint.

Wow. I would never know if something would look dated or not. Designers should be mandatory for home design. It's a small cost that goes a long way.
