I've been out doing office presentations these past few weeks, and sharing with Brokers and Agents what ActiveRain is all about.  In my travels, I have found that as new members join ActiveRain, it can seem a bit overwhelming because there are so many members, tools, great posts, and let's face it, there's a ton of information here.

So Where do you go and what do you do once you hear about ActiveRain?

The first step is to just sign up, the second step is to setup and create your ActiveRain profile, and the third step is to write that first post.  To help new members with these steps and to try and simplify the process, there is a "Getting Started" post that helps minimize the frustration some experience their first few visits here.

The most common question I get is "What tools does ActiveRain offer to help my Business?"

Having useful tools in your "Toolbox" is great, but if you don't know where they are, you're not using them, you don't know how, or you never open the toolbox, then none of them will present much value?  Hopefully this wil help some of you that are new to the community.

Here's the "TOP 10 ActiveRain Tools" and in no particular order:

10.  Advertising on Activerain can get you some great exposure.  Nearly 150,000 members, and over 2,000,000 visitors each month.  We have numerous options available through channels, Activerain pages, the Daily Newsletter and the Top Spot on the Feature Board.

9.  Go Hyper-Local using Localism.com  Creating content on ActiveRain for your Localism Blog can be a huge resource for your local communities and neighborhoods.  The worlds most complete neighborpedia.  Sponsoring a community is easy and inexpensive.

8Building a Profile is more than just your picture, company name and phone number.  Member profiles CAN generate Subscribers, Traffic, Associates and Business.  Take the time to make your profile your masterpiece.  Your Profile can be just as powerful as a website.

7.  Outside Blogs have become one of ActiveRains leading tools for members.  There's No need to learn a new Blogging platform.  It's easy to set one up and there are plenty of tools and widgets to help make your custom outside Blogs successful.

6.  Vision - Do you know what your prospects are thinking?  ActiveRain presents a new vision for success.  IDX and Leads are great to have, but you'll need the tools, a plan, and the follow-up / follow thru to make any lead generation tool become a success.

5.  Hit Router - With over 100,000 City searches on ActiveRain recently, you could generate some great leads via your IDX.  Set up your FREE Markets, create City Search Campaigns, you can watch a webinar how to do it all.  There's over 1,000,000 posts on ActiveRain which means one million plus opportunities for visitors to search for homes in your area and find YOU.

4.  The ActiveRain Referral Exchange.  Be sure to setup some alerts in your area immediately.  This training webinar will help.  There's even a rating system in place that can be used at the close of referral transactions.  A tool every referral exchange should have.

3.  Networking, Connecting, and building Associations with other Real Estate Industry Professionals on ActiveRain will increase your knowledge and resources faster than any other website or Social Network out there.  Your Associates are a great reference and endorsement.  You can Build your National and International Associates all in one place.

2.  It's good to find Blogging mentors who have been successful.  There are thousands of great Bloggers and successful members here on ActiveRain, you can see the Top 100 most subscribed to get some great ideas and to see what works for them.

1.  Becoming a Rainmaker member does have it's obvious privileges.  Why?  (see all the above)  There are many more tools, services and benefits you'll discover on ActiveRain, but these 10 are the most valuable and powerful in my opinion.  Remember that joining ActiveRain and using these tools is not a "Sprint To The Win" it's a "Marathon To The Victory!"

Sometimes finding support and answers to your questions can seem like a daunting task, but there are some easy ways and "tools" available to help you get anything you need on ActiveRain. You can Contact ActiveRain, use the SEARCH tool, check the HELP/FAQ Group, visit the ActiveRainGuide.com for "how-to" posts and tutorials, use my profile, or you can contact our staff on-line anytime.  You'll find our staff Blog at ActiveRainTeam.com

Specific Tools are created to get certain jobs done, I hope these tools help you "Get Your Job Done!"

Brad.  That is almost a step by step program to take an offline industry member and create a productive results oriented online marketing presence.

Anyone who would sign up for those services, follow a pretty relaxed blogging schedule, would see guaranteed results within 6 months.

AR should put me on an airplane to travel across Canada and sign up some of these people up here.  It amazes me how many consumers are online here looking for us and how few industry members are here to be found!

Canada presents a wide open market for AR, they really need to proactively capture it before someone else steps up here.

Great toolbox, Brad!

In your spare time, would you do a post (or provide a link to an existing one) that might help us newbies understand and use Associates better?

  • Difference between subscribing to a blog and adding an associate;
  • Actually got a message that someone added me, but was not added to my group. Etiquette - Am I supposed to somehow add a nice comment for that person? Add him or her to my Associates?
  • Your list is huge. (What a surprise) Can you sort to find someone or something in particular? How do you use the list once you have it?

What if you have a company website and not an individual site? My company (which I am part owner) site has the IDX. Is there a way to tract the leads coming from ActiveRain not to confuse leads coming organically to our site?

10:06am • #46

Mike - as part owner, you should have access to the reports, stats, and analytics of your IDX which should give you a breakdown of where your hits and leads are coming from. I'm not familar with your IDX solution so there's no way I can give you an affirmative answer, but it would seem that this should be available by the IDX provider.

Brad.. If I may add to this... don't forget the "groups".  Here you can explore blogs on topics you have an interest in, and meet other members as well.

For all newbies, when reading a blog, at the bottom of this and before the comments you will see where the member has posted the blog to, you might want to check out these too as a way to connect to other members.

I have to say that most new people to Activerain have no idea what they have stumbled upon unless they have a great mentor or coach in their corner to walk them through the process and getting those first few blogs out there in the publics eyes. This is a great top 10 of why to be a rainmaker, but there are 100s!

2:51am • #98

Jim - many of our members on Activerain are "mentors and coaches" just by providing the content they do on their Blogs.  Subscribing to these members is like having "hundreds" of mentors and coaches all in one place.  As a community manager here on AR, I make it a daily task to help as many members as I can with their questions and needs, emails and calls.

If you need any assistance here, feel free to contact myself or any of our staff and support team any time.  Thanks.  :-)

I'd love to see our members growing a bigger marketshare in a smaller marketplace.  These are some of the most powerful marketing and social networking tools on the web.  (IMHO) :-)

Jason - that's a great question, if you go to the referral exchange, you'll see there is an option for lenders too.  I would imagine that when a seller moves out of the area and intends on buying a home elsewhere, you could refer or look for a referral from those other states or areas.  I think you lend all over the planet so it may not do you much good in that sense, but being the sharp and creative guy that you are, I'm sure you'll come up with some ideas how to make this work for you.  When I get back home, I'll have to do a post about this..great question.  :-)

New to Activerain and just gotten chewed out by another member for infringement of code, I am being driven to information about the network.  So glad this happened, because the information is invaluable.  Feeling a little overwhelmed that there is so much to do and learn ..... one bog at a time.

The most interesting one to me was the link to the top 100 bloggers.  I wasn't aware of that one.

Hi Brad, you are an absolute wealth of information!  I'm just starting to really get into the Rain and so I have a question for you.  If I see a blog I really like (like this one) and I want to save it for future reference, how should I go about doing that?  Thank you!

10:05am • #126

Thanks Tanya - the best way is to create a bookmark.  There are a few ways you can do this.  Here's a link that will explain more ways you can save posts for future use:  http://activerain.com/blogsview/618114/3-ways-to-bookmark-and-manage-your-favorite-posts

Brad: Speaking of blogging, have you ever heard of www.bloodhounddog.com? I signed up for that because supposedly it is a blogging website for Real Estate professionals, but I have submitted 14 articles, and not one comment has been sent back. I know my articles cannot be that boring. Thanks Brad. This is good information

Paul - I am very familiar with bloodhoundblog.  It would be hard to write 14 articles or posts on AR and not get any comments, views, or visitors, even if they were boring.  You should consider giving AR a test run and possibly consider a rainmaker account.  Once you do, you'll probably never want or need to Blog on any other site.

Troy - looks like less than a minute went by before you were back!  ROFL  :-)))  Seriously though, thanks for your comment.

Margaret - it can seem overwhelming, just start with number #1 and work your way through... like anything that's new, it just requires a bit of time, patience, with a passion and the desire to succeed, and you will.  You'll also find lots of help and support here on AR.
