Remodeling? Consider donating rather than adding to the landfill--it's the green, eco-friendly thing to do!

Remodeling

If you're remodeling, you'll be generating loads of waste that you no longer want, but that may be reusable. Think green and be eco-friendly; consider donating these construction items, rather than adding more junk to your local landfill!

Many construction materials exchanges and thrift shops welcome salvaged materials that are in good condition, and schools and clubs can often use such materials for theater sets, shop classes, and projects.

Items you may be able to donate include:

  • wood flooring
  • cabinetry
  • bath fixtures such as sinks, tubs, and toilets
  • lighting fixtures
  • doors
  • brick and stone
  • lumber

Resources for donating used materials include Habitat for Humanity, whose ReStore projects specializes in just this sort of thing; www.FreeCycle.org , which provides free listings of giveaway items, and www.Craigslist.com , which also provides a free list of items to be given away. Some local newspapers also offer free or low-cost classifieds for giveaway items.

It is great to know some ways to recycle these types of things. Often it is difficult to know who may be interested in them.

What a great idea!  If only more clever green ideas like this were common.  Thanks for the post.
