Where I go to relax when I'm at home

Punta Cana, Palm tree, Dominican Republic, Jenny Kotulak, photo

Where I go to relax when I'm on holidays.

We all need a holiday sometime.  A holiday to me is getting in a car, jumping on a plane (definitely not jumping out of one ) taking the bus, train or cruise ship and heading out of town.  It means leaving work, kids, pets, chores, etc. in the rear view mirror for whatever length of time the particular holiday allows.

Sometimes we just need a break.  If a holiday isn't in the plans there are lots of other ways to pretend you are on one.  Living on Lake Ontario makes it easy to "get away from it all".  You can walk on the pier, stroll the lakeside parks, feed the ducks, take advantage of  great photo opportunities, people and boat watch, and of course finish up by  eating ice cream at the marinas.

Close your eyes and listen to the seagulls squawk.  It's almost like being on the beach in the Dominican Republic.  Almost.  Just don't go in the water.

Hi Dinah Lee,

Thank you.  It's fun now that I have discovered wordless Wednesday and Speechless Sunday.  I always end up adding words though so I hope that's o.k. Going through my photos looking for something brings back lots of great memories.

Thanks Monique - I think you can see I love being near water.

Thanks Lou, My daughter had taken that shot.  I thought it was cute.

Hi Gabe,

Being from Florida I guess you know all about nice beaches.  I actually just booked a trip to Cayo Coco Cuba last night leaving on Tuesday for a week.  Too bad Americans can't visit there.  Canadians and Europeans love the island.  It will be my first trip there but will certainly bring back "bragging photos" lol.

Hi Jennifer,

It's o.k., I'm going for you lol.  I will think of you as I"m sipping my mojito that Juan the pool boy brings me.

Thanks Bob,

I"m looking forward to being in your group.  Thanks for having me.

Hey Steve,

Yes I have to admit she is a cutie.

Tony & Darcy,

I thought the tree trunk might be a bit weird but I loved the contrast with the water.  Trying to get shots without people in them wasn't easy.

Thanks Kim,

That's really nice that you have been "Lola watching".  Kids and pets always make interesting subjects for photos.

Hi Mary,

It's just too bad that Lake Ontario is not clean enough to swim (or warm enough, for that matter).  There are a couple of "beaches" on Toronto Island (just off the shores of Toronto) but half the summer they are closed due to high bacteria conditions. Many people in our area have cottages (I think you call them cabins in the U.S?) on the lakes in Northern Ontario.  Peaceful, beautiful but hours sitting in traffic to get there, especially on long weekends.

Hi Lise,

That photo was taken in Punta Cana.  We have been there a couple of times.  I'm curious to see how the beach at Cayo Coco compares.  It looks amazing. I hear you can see the lights of Florida from there.

Hi Teresa,

Lola inherited all my daughter's stuffed animals.  I'm constantly picking them up off the living room floor.  We don't have your mountains here though!  Denver is on my list of places to visit.  I have a couple of high school friends who live there.  It turns out their kids were going to the same school but neither one knew the other lived there.  Too funny.

Hi Jackie,

I really appreciate your comments and I'm glad you liked the photos.  It's amazing how something so simple can be so impactful. (is that a word???)

Lola is so cute.  I've been thinking about getting a small dog since my pet died back in September, but I don't know if I can be a good Mom to a dog.  I feel guilty at the thought of leaving them alone for so many hours .... but they are so cute.  It's tempting enough to try and work out a different schedule.

Hi Sylvie,

It's a big decision isn't it?  Our house is busy so Lola never gets lonely.  As long as she gets walked twice a day she's happy.  I'm sure you would be a great dog mom again.

Thanks Ann,

I love lighthouses and I was so happy with the way that photo turned out.  I'm glad you liked it too.

Thanks Renee,

I just returned from Cayo Coco yesterday so I have some new pics to post.

Hi Ann,

I wonder how long some of those old lighthouses will be there.  It will be nice to have photos for the future.

Jenny,

I would hope they would be adopted and preserved.  They have historic value.
