That quote was taken directly from an email I just received from a prospect.

Of course I smiled. I was happy that he seems happy. We are off on the right foot.

Then I thought about it a little while.

Why is he so impressed that I got right back to him?

Do most realtors not get right back to their clients and prospects?

He sent me an email last night and I replied with the information this morning. Is that special?

As realtors, we pull out our hair trying to figure out ways to make ourselves stand out from the competition. But maybe, just maybe, all we have to do is get back to basics!

Jo thank you for the blog on this. It all seems so simple but I have heard some surprising stories on how someone has called an agent to speak about listing their property and the agent never gets back in a timely way. There can always be extenuating circumstances, but if there isn't then shame on the agent. It's all about customer service!

Good points! In our busy lives, trying always to be cutting edge and niched, we often forget to pay attention to the simple rules of doing good business. Thanks for the timely reminders.

This should be the rule for Realtors-getting back is the single most important thing we can do in our business. Congrats now you have a customer for doing your job.

Jo, great post! These are such basic things, and so many people in all professions haven't figured it out yet. My HVAC guy showed up one day with his nephew, and as I opened the door, he was explaining the importance of showing up on time - something a lot of people don't do!

If you think about it there are a lot of simple things in this business that we forget to do that we should be doing. Getting back to the customer on time, and especially first, will help your reputation and help you make more money.

Good communications skills are so important. This is the #1 knock against Realtors in most surveys!

JoAnna, it takes discipline to be the best Realtor and it starts with the Golden Rule! I love that kind of feedback......it makes all the hard work worthwhile.

You would think that getting back to customers/clients asap was a no-brainer...right?

How about the Realtors who don't get back to other Realtors in a timely fashion or at all?

That's just as bad!

Good post Jo. I was out in Montana last week, Yellowstone, when my phone rang, I answered it and got a new customer.

I met with a client today who I called back on a Friday night. She was impressed and surprised ... and very happy. It is a constant effort to stay organized and on top of things. I can't tell you how many top agents I have interacted with that were all over the place.
