We took a trip last weekend to our mountain house. It is located close to the back waters of Fontana Lake, nestled in the Smokey Mountains. It is about 24 miles past Bryson City on highway 28. This is a beautiful shot of the rail roal tussle. The Smokey Mountain Railway offers train trips and one of them actually goes over this tussle.
My Grandparents were actually re-located when the lake was being built, along with all of my other relatives that lived in the area. The little community where they lived, and is now under water was called Japan. The locals pronounced it J-pan. I actually have an old calendar from a local business with the Japan address on it. We had a pleasant visit and hope to return soon. This is the most water I have seen in the lake in many years. This area has been in a drought situation for 2 to 3 years. Enjoy the pictures.
Hi Sandy - I grew up in Fontana California. If you had ever been there you would feel pretty sorry for me. Not a great place!!! I like your Fontana much better!!!
