A great place to visit in Central Calvert County is Battle Creek Cypress Swamp.

There is a boardwalk path to walk through the protected watershed area. Also, an interesting indoor center for learning about the local animals in the area. Upstairs in the loft even has real snakes and spiders for those not too afraid to get close. It is a peaceful place to enjoy the history of the location as well as the unspoiled beauty. If you are ever passing through our little county I highly recommend this stop!

Directions: On Route 4 just south of Prince Frederick, turn on Sixes Road. From Sixes Road, turn left on Grays Road for 1/10 mile to Cypress Swamp on the right.

Questions? Information? Call 410-535-5327. Nature Center hours are 8:30-4:30.

Sounds like I'd feel right at home! Sounds just like Florida. We have protected wetlands, walking trails, furry spiders, and all kinds of creepy crawlies. And yet people act surprised to see all these things when they move here. LOL

Lisa - I remember living in FL shortly (in Port St. Lucie) and there were lots of creepy crawlies and naturally beautiful places to visit. I love this park because it is never the same place twice and the kids and I always come away with a great experience and no video games and tv's involved.
