What is social media?? A blog such as this one, Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin are a few examples of social media. They are all great in their own way to showcase who you are - your business sense and your personality. Its a way to connect to potential clients from all over the world, as well as with people who share common interests. They are also outlets to share information, answer questions, learn from others and discuss concerns or topics.
In short form:
A blog allows you to write articles to share information with others. Blogs can range from something short like this one will be, to something much longer. I like to write on my blog when there are updates to share about the Toronto real estate market, or real estate in general.
Facebook can be used on a personal level to connect to friends and share just that - personal information. Or, for those wishing to build their business, you can keep the content non-personal and insure everything is related to your business.
Twitter allows you to update others from around the world, from all sorts of background, what you're doing at that particular moment, in 140 characters or less. Some people use it to update it with only business content, others only personal, and yet others include a mix of both. I use the latter approach - while I love what I do, there's more to my life than selling homes. My theory is that I like to connect to people who love real estate, as well as those who enjoy my interests. Simply follow people and ask them to follow you as well to grow your twitter numbers.
Linkedin is the most business-like social media out there. Its like a resume, online. There you can add people to your network, and share your education, past employment, recommendations, etc. This is a great way to meet potential clients as well as people you may yourself hire for a particular position. I personally feel that it is very important to have a presence on the web - in many different forms. Almost everyone looks to these social media forms to either look for people to hire, or to network.
