In my last post Kellie remarked that it would be wonderful to see our historic homes remodeled green and I so agree.  What great fun to be on the hunt for old fixtures, trim and molding.  I have to admit that I recently have discovered a fondness for the mid century designs.  Just the basic 3 bedroom 1 bath ranch  styles so commonly built right after World War II.  These homes were castles to young familys happy just to have their own place.  Many of these young couples never moved and raised an average of 3 kids there.  They have their own history and stories to share.  Amazing how times have changed.

We have a 1906  (2900 sf) home in Lebanon that we've had as a rental for 20 years.  By becoming acquainted with an historic architect, we had access to information and resources to do just as you mentioned.  In a salvage yard, found the huge doors that originally separated the parlor from the living area, a early 1900 light fixture from another source, and specially created trim by a carpenter.  Time consuming, rewarding and wonderful to save this type of item from the landfill and re-create this beautiful home.

My great grandparents lived in the same home where they raised my grandpa & great aunt. The home was sold in the mid 80's when my great grandma passed away age the age of 95. My grandparents lived in the same home where they raised my mom & uncle. They sold the home around 1990. I think it would be wonderful if people looked at their house as a home...a place to make fond memories...

Margaret, that looks So charming! I love it!
