Is Humor really relevant?

There are those that believe that humor is a panacea for life's ills.  Then there are those that would say that it is just good to have a good belly laugh every now and then.  Personally, I would rather have a smile on my face as opposed to wearing a frown and adding another wrinkle to my brow.  And trust me I have been known to stir up stuff in the office to lighten the mood of the day.  One of the worlds most noted writers had this to say about humor.  So how do you feel about humor in your life and workplace?

"Humor is the great thing,

The saving thing.

The minute it crops up,

All our irritations and resentments

Slip away and a sunny spirit

Takes their place."

Mark TwainMark Twain

I always look for humor in a situation.  And I think in a business environment such as ours it is always a usefull skill to have.  It brings you closer to your clients and let's them know you are human.  Not just some automatron that sells homes.  It's always best if the humor can be self effacing too.  Shows people you don't have a big ego.  Great post and best of luck.

Good Saturday afternoon to you Don-I do believe humor or laughter is the best medicine and we all need more of it whether it be in the work place or home. So I say LOTS of humor is excellent. A friend of mine in the rain reminds me of that all the time. BTW-No need for the pouty face cause you didn't really offend me with calling me ma'am as I know it is a sign of respect but only if I am OLD LOL.  But Sharon is so much more personal. Have a wonderful Sat and right at the moment the sun is out so I am going to enjoy part of it.

Frank & Jodi,

Strange that you would say that, I am playing with my 11 year old grand son today and I hope that he doesn't make me look bad.  :-))  Mind ya it wouldn't take much.

There had better be humor in my office -- or I won't be there! We are always laughing as we get work done. It makes the day go faster, and our rough times easier. Laughter TRULY IS the BEST MEDICINE!!!! Thanks Don!

Humor is a great ice breaker...  sometimes you have to laugh - otherwise you might just cry.

Don - I think we need a bit of humor in everything that we do. If we cannot smile, if we cannot laugh, what is left?

Mark Twain was a very wise man, but I think in today's PC world he would have been looked at very differently, heck possibly even sued, which as far as I'm concerned, not something to be proud of. Sometimes what people perceive as progress is just the opposite.

George,

I am thinking that a lot of the writers from days gone by would be in a lot of trouble today because of all of the PC stuff that is out there.  The question looms, What will the world look like in another 100 years and will folks be walking on egg shells?

Morning Don, Humor is an innate part of my personality and marriage. I don't think I could stop if I really, really, cross my heart tried.

Mr Don...I would never disagree with you or Mark Twain.  Ergo....Eat, Drink and be Merry.  Put a sign on your front door...no sourpusses allowed...period!  Hmmm...would that mean I would have to sourpuss on the porch, not often mind you...just once in a while!

Good morning Ms. Gail,

I do like the part about eating and drinking and being merry just one question is that in any particular order or can I just drink and be merry?

By the way I cannot imagine you being a sourpuss anywhere.

hahahaha....major sourpusspita...just ask John ;-)  And I do think if you're going to drink and be merry, food would be prudent!  Not that I want to be a party-pooper, just want to remain part of the party....LOL

I'm tired of all the PC stuff going on today and I have a hard time with keeping my mouth shut. I have a wicked sense of humor from being a dj for 18 years, but in the real world, it can get me in a lot of trouble. I wish I could have lived in a time when no matter what I said, people would laugh.

Don, I will see humor in everything:) I am very, very positive person. Somehow I will always try to see that bright side in everything. And honestly, those who know me, know that I really enjoy April Fools Day. Does that make me less professional? I don't think so:) Maybe younger:)
