Atlanta Country Club Golf Homes Estate Sale Private Gated Public Course Subdivision

We all know the big names, and many of us started (or are still with) one of them. It just seemed to me, most folks do not care. So we started Get Us A Home Realty, after all, that is what we do and it's easy to remember, what future value is there in Frank Orlando Realty? Ugh. That said, a friend of ours is retiring, her brand is her name, no takers.

My sister lives near by and has been in the business longer than I have. For 3 years I told her, let me hold your license, no monthly fee, you only pay a percentage if It's my lead. No, she said, I feel comfortable with the big company name I'm with. At the end of the year her fees were $10,000+, YIKES!

In these times, many agents are making changes, and 2 months ago she asked if I would hold her license, sure, come on board. Jodi gave her enough leads to have her covered up for a while.

She said, you know, nobody has asked what company I work with, as a matter of fact some only mention it when they see it on a contract. I'm sure there are folks that are driven to the big firms, but, for the most part, whats in a name anyway?

10 Comments on Small Real Estate Companies Can And Will Succeed. Whats In A Name Anyway?

During the real estate slump, we've seen many small firms fold or merge....yes, it does depend on how well the shop is managed...capital, etc...kudos to you for your hard work....I think it's about reputation....credibility to much extent!  Some of the big companies are having many financial problems....stick to it!  Go for it!

I very seldom have my clients what company I work for. They are there to work with me not a company. There is nothing in a name.Company name that is. Its all in your name!

I would have to agree that most big names really don't mean nothing, its all on YOU the agent that they are dealing with, and I think it's ridiculous that agents pay licensing fee's to use a name when they could have there own company and use that money for advertising etc.

Andrew, that was our EXACT thinking when we started! The money we used to pay in fees was allocated to Google pay per click. That got us started on relying almost exclusively on the internet. When I wanted to use a particular search engine, my broker said why? You can use our company site, it has a search engine, uh, time to go off on our own....

You are so right.  I am with Keller Williams, but the fee is so small that starting our own brokerage makes too little sense for us.....as we will pass on the liability for them to handle for time management.  It is worth the 1.5% we pay.  Even KW knows that it is the agent first and the company is secondary.  They have no font size requirements for their name, so we brand our name in huge letters, but it is still the person that needs to be branded the most.  It is all about relationships.  No one has ever come to me and said we want to do business with someone in your company because you are with KW.  It is not a reality.

Best to you.......

Sell on.........

Tim, thanks for the comment, that's a pretty good split. Some companies can be pretty restrictive in what you can and cannot do. Sell On!!!
