When I first starting using TypePad, I spent a lot of time looking for things.  For me, at any rate, the layout of menus and commands took some getting-used-to.  Now I know where things are.  But just in case any new TypePad user is stumbling around, looking for things hidden in plain sight, here is an illustrated version of the initial steps in setting up a new blog:

Sign in to your TypePad account

Click the "Weblogs" tab

Click "Create a new Weblog

Name your new Weblog, then click "Create New Weblog"  Hint:  If this is just a test blog, you probably do not want to "Make This Weblog Public".

Click the "Design" tab

Now you are here, and you are ready to rock!

Nice, I am going to bookmark this one. I notice they keep adding and changing things.  I sign on and find new features. The CSS on mine is modified so I don't have some of these menus anymore.  I have to change code to modify the layout.

I use Blogger for my blog and must say I never even heard of TypePad. Are you familiar with Blogger and is TypePad comparable or better in any way? I'm pretty pleased with Blogger. Mike C

Teresa,  Yep.  I jumped into Advanced Templates at the get go, then later started discovering what can be done without advanced templates - just using the Custom CSS feature.  Do make some test-only blogs and experiment with the design (like you have nothing better to do <s>)  They have made some good improvements!

Emmett -  Yes, I've used Blogger - in fact, I still have some personal stuff there.  (http://lyricsofmyyouth.blogspot.com/  for example) I got pretty good at customizing the blogger template code, but now I'm seriously out of practice.   Wordpress  and TypePad are usually considered on a more "professional" level.  There's also Square Space and LiveJournal

Caution: CAT BLOG AHEAD

Including random thoughts on life, art, business, stuff, and occasionally Real Estate.

What is a CAT BLOG?

According to Seth Godin: "Cat blogs are for, by, and about the person blogging. A cat blog is about your cat and your dating travails and your boss and whatever else you feel like sharing in your public diary." Well, I am the boss, my dating years are behind me, but I do love my cats.

Enjoy!
