Greenbrier Episcopal School (GES) had its Tenth Annual Auction held at the West Virginia Osteopathic Medical School, Lewisburg, West Virginia. The theme for the night was "A Black Tie Affair". GES provided free champange for the event. Each table had bottles of wine to go with a delicious meal prepared by Blackwell's Restaurant.

This event is always so much fun. My husband and I have attended 3 out of 4 years since moving to Lewisburg in 2005. At the registration desk, you receive a program that contains your bidder number to bid on both silent and live items. There were 30+ tables for the silent auction items. Items by category were:
-
Kids Stuff - Nine items, such as, snowshoes; one-year YMCA membership; denim bean bag chair with an IPod; an 8GB Generation 2 Apple;
-

-
Eat, Drink and Be Merry ten items consisted of food baskets, dinners, and wines.
-
For the Home items, one could bid on 26 items consisting of furniture, tools, rugs, antique furniture, pottery, Merino wool afghan, air purifier, Oriental rug, chandelier,.
-

-
Art - some of the nine items included a watercolor painting, prints, and portrait certificates.
-
Gatherings, Get aways and Golf packages included many golf packages, golf lessons, romantic getaways, and season tickets to Carnegie Hall;
-
Class Baskets included a relaxation basket, school basket, child's kitchen set, basket of jewelry, an electric basket of items from around the world, a bed and breakfast package, and more.
The live auction started after dinner and some of these items included: two nights at the five-star Broadmoor in Colorado Springs; a beautiful art deco piano--a high quality Schubert with state of the art construction including matching bench; weekend at Snowshoe Mountain Resort; 9x12 Karastan wool rug; a week at the South Carolina Sanctuary in a beautiful 3-bedroom home in Fripp Island, SC; golf packages; a week at the Panama City Beach, Florida; four tickets to see Bruce Springsteen at Hershey Park, PA; furniture; and of course the GES students' art masterpieces, and many more items.
The amount of money raised for this event was $38,000. Every year, for the past ten years, this event has raised between $40,000 and $60,000. Because of the economy, GES did not expect to raise this amount, and was very pleased with the outcome this year. Most of the money goes to financial aid for students not otherwise able to attend GES. The support that GES received from this community is awesome and made this Black Tie Affair a tremendous success, and indeed an auction to remember.

Rebecca, As a card-carrying member of the Episcopal Church, I'm sure this was a wonderful event! Eating, drinking and spending money are some of the lesser-lofty things we Episcopalians do well...LOL ;-) !!!
