To Blog or Not to Blog...

First , let me say thank you to the 2 blog followers I currently have.  Wow, 2 and I've only done one local blog.  No, I'm not being sacastic, not completely anyway.  I've not blogged in quite a while but I feel the urge to start on a regular basis.  Maybe I can write some pithy comments, maybe they will be informative,  I just hope they will never be dull.

My market is in Anne Arundel County, MD.  In particular, the areas of Crofton, Gambrills, Odenton, Davidsonville and anywhere near the Ft. Meade/NSA area.  I'm on the board of the Greater Crofton Committee.  This committee is comprised of representatives from the local homeowners associations.  There are many issues facing our community, one of the most immediate is the deconstruction of the corner gas station to be replaced by a high-end development of storefronts and office space.

I spoke recently, with the developer's representative for the complex.  They are very excited to be coming to Crofton.  He proceeded to tell me some "facts" about our market, one of them being the average income (over $100k), Crofton's rating 2 years ago as the "72nd Best Place To Live in the USA" from Money Magazine.  The developer recognized that the Crofton community was "under served" and had to leave the community for upscale items.  They are raring to go and apparently there is a large amount of interest from high-end retailers for this space.  This seemed suprising to me due to the current state of the economy.

I wondered what the folks at the corner gas station were thinking about all this.  I patronize this establishment quite a bit so I decided to strike up a casual conversation with them.  I was suprised to hear they were looking forward to it.  They will be moving "down the street" on the other side of Route 3, and will only be servicing cars.  No longer will they be offering gas.  I was told about how nice the space is, how much larger and how they anticipated their business to grow.

Change can be good - its all about how you approach it.  I'll keep you posted about how this works out.
