The University of New Hampshire located in Durham New Hampshirehas announced today that the four year project of generating heat and electricity by burning methane gas provided by a Turnkey landfill in Rochester New Hampshirehas been completed!  The methane travels 12.7 miles underground from a processing plant at the Turnkey Landfill in Rochester to the campus. It ends up inside UNH's co-generation plant, replacing natural gas.The landfill could continue to produce methane for up to 20 to 30 years after it has closed.

Just another reason why I love living in the beautiful state of New Hampshire.  We all do are part to keep this beautiful state the way it is.

Bill - This seems to be a concept that is gaining legs. What a ingenious idea. Locally in nearby Elkart County they are heat the new county jail the same way

Bill--I like the idea of using landfill gas for power.  We need to make less garbage in the first place as well as find a use for the garbage.  Thanks for the post.
