Social Networking (Facebook) and Real Estate - How does it work for you?

By
Real Estate Agent with Re/Max Bayshore

As a 40 year old REALTOR with 20 years under my belt I think I am pretty tech savvy.  As I was going through high school and college I learned to use a computer and over the years I have become pretty efficient.  Each day it seems there is anew and better way to stay in touch.

ActiveRain for example is great.  Never before in real estate has it been so easy to get information about anything.  Post a blog and comment and advise come from everywhere.  Most of the comments are good.

In the past year I have become somewhat addicted to Facebook.  I will admit that it took me a while to get comfortable with it but in the past few months I have become reacquainted with people I have not heard from in 20 years.  Each time I add a friend someone else sees me and the cycle continues.

The hardest part for me is keeping a handle on my personal friends posting where my professional colleagues can read it.  I am sure there is some way to separate the two but I can't seem (nor do I have the time) to figure it out.

I can't say that I have gotten any business from it yet but with over 210 friends at this time I thin k it is only a matter of time.  Our local association has a Facebook app now so that is exciting.  Share your success stories with us.

Jules either create 2 accounts one business one pleasure or put in a filter to seperate the two. you can make it so only certain people can read certain parts of your account. I do this with realtors in my area who are my friends. They cant see my updates.

Hi Jules, I have a facebook account but I love Twitter.  Something about not having all those darn irratating applications that get in the way.  Guess I'm a "Just the Facts, Ma'am", kinda gal.  LOL

I love AR, Twitter and Facebook best. I too still have not yet figured out how to keep my wacky friends separate from the professional Realtors I work with. Maybe they will all just need to learn how to get along. Its a juggling act.

Jules, I have one facebook account but have also setup a limited profile. That way when business associates befriend me on facebook i add them to my limited profile. This keeps my personal and business life seperate. When setting up a limited profile you can choose what features those users can see and those that they cannot. Just a thought!

I have to say that I have not gotten into Twitter as much and may be dragged along..but I do love Facebook and I am guilty of having just one shared account...no business directly from it but these things take time I guess..

I Love AR it does seem to be on a more professional level. Your Friends don't so much make comments.  I defiantly would want to keep them separate.
