I tend to stay away from political issues and political debate; however, debate started today in the House of Representatives on the Waxman-Markey bill, better known as "cap and trade".

Disguised as a bill to clean up green house gases, this bill does very little to affect global warming or any other environmental issue. What it really does is impose a massive energy tax on all the working men and women in the United States. This bill has been estimated to increase our energy costs by $3000-$4000 per year. So much for our $13 per week tax savings.

The only people who will benefit from this bill are the Federal Government through increased tax revenue and the companies which are created to trade emmission credits. Interesting enough one of those companies is owned by our lead environmentalist Al Gore.

For more information on this bill go to the Heritage Foundation here.

Call, write or email your congressmen and senators to let them know your feelings on this bill. The only way to stop this huge tax increase is by letting our voices be heard.

Got your attention did they? It is amazing what is happening in front of our little busy eyes. In about 18 months I fear people are going to wake up but the laws are already in place. We are paying 73 cents on the dollar in taxes now, grocery, property tax, car tags etc. and the folks are not even thinking about it.

Charles, they've had my attention for sometime but I try to stay away from discussing politics in blogs (or in writing for that matter). This one is just too over-the-top.

Kathy some things are worth getting the word out on and this is one of them. Yikes I started researching this last night and Yikes I had no idea, I am sure most average Joe's don't either.

The states that are the most dependent on coal are going to get hit so hard.

Keep up the good word getting the word out. I researched it because I was confused. WOW...

It is a stinking TAX with very little enviromental help.

Obama said he was going to work on coal and he delivered with his promise. Change is here. What are you going to do to stay ahead of the change?

Thanks for the heads up on this...there seem to be so many things we have to be on top of...it helps to have AR to help keep us in the loop!

Hi Kathy

The cap and trade bill is a new tax bill that will affect everyone in the country; with new and higher taxes and higher cost of goods. The bill will also drive business out of the country with a large lose of jobs. If the bill passes the citizens and the country will become the big loser

Good luck and success.

Really I can't understand why you would write this as a members only post.  If you want to get the word out, get the word out.  Millions of people need to read this, not 147,000.  Please reconsider.  Oh and I've been writing my rep and senator since I heard cap and trade mentioned.  I also wrote madam speaker on the issue as well.  She doesn't take my emails anymore.

Cap and trade is just a rip-off and hand-out.  And Al Gore stands to make out pretty well from this crap.

Why is it that when an oil company scientist says something less than positive about Anthropogenic Global Warming, he is a hack with an agenda, but when a radical environmentalist or someone that makes money from "environmentalism" says something about AGW, it is seen as an unbiased truth.

It will be even worse in states that did not vote for Obama.  This is pure politics and a good way to send more business to China and points abroad.  They care even less and have little effort for the basic enviromental controls.

Funny thing is that it will hurt the poorest states the most. New York and California are nice but we do not all want to be the same.  They have already chased most industry away. Planting trees would be much cheaper and more than likely be just as effective.

Kathy- Please make this a public post. This message is so important. People need to start calling and emailing their representatives now.

But you are wrong about Al Gore. He owns more than ONE company that will benefit. He has part ownership in over 100 companies that will profit from this bill. Even the Dems on the hill were getting mad at him about this part of the bill. If this bill passes, Al Gore will become the first GREEN BILLIONAIRE!

Along with Government Electric, GE. Look who is lobbying for it, GE!!!!!!! I wonder why! How blind we are if we do not see.

Not just that, but we will all pay. The companies will have to pass the expense on to the consumers.

It is also discriminatory. And poor people will not be able to comply.

Not only that, but the companies will be forced to lay off more people too. There is no winner here except for more control and power for the government.
