Lifestyle Liquidation is a term I read in this morning's Wall St Journal, in an article by Robert Frank about the End of the Gilded Age.

Yes, it's partly about money, as the economic crunch is hitting the wealthy now, not just the middle class. More than half of all millionaires have lost 30% of their assets in this economy. Auctions abound, whether for a single property or for a collection of properties. (Our experience has been that auctions work for unique properties that can be advertised to a worldwide audience, but don't do much for typical homes, whatever the price range).

It's also about simplifying, which is more than just downsizing. Keeping the cars, boats, antiques, collections, and STUFF takes time and money. Do you use it all, or does it just make you feel "comfortable"? Is it really about things, or is it about people?

Well, I know there are more lake cottages on the market at affordable prices than I have ever seen. So I think folks in MI are letting go of Life Style Liquidation.

Catchy term... Our family moved from Chicago to Missouri in January 2000 because we longed for a more simple lifestyle. When people are forced into change they resist but I do believe it is all about people and in the long run, life will be better for many. They will embrace their freedom; the simplicity of their life.

Sharon,

Ginny and I have been doing this here in Tucson; less stuff, more time with each other, kids, grandkids and good friends.
